I may be able to leave son at home alone for a short while, but not both together without any adult supervision. Next week, I will leave them with my dad while I accompany mum at the hospital.

Have planned their work while I am out. After my 'eruption' this afternoon, they are definitely on their toes for the time being. I can erupt again

Sleepy, I make sure the kids have something to work on when I step out. They are free to do whatever they want once work is done. Somehow they are more productive when I am away. Means I am redundant hor?

On my own, I run my little errands. Mostly get grocery or stroll in the malls. Exercise in aircon environment. Other days, meet up with girlfriends for a cuppa. I have a few Kopi buddies who live near me and we meet up often.

Janet & Sleepy, I notice that I erupt much less since my new neighbours moved in. The couple take turns erupting at their kids. Hear until sien. My eruptions pale in comparison, no fight, so I save my breath. :rotflmao:

My kids are older too. I have been telling them not to age and make an ahjumma out of me, please. Even though I am a mommy, I want to maintain some semblance of a sweet elegant lady.

            Mawar,

I was boiling mad yesterday because my daughter has a bad habit of showing black face when she doesn't get her way...thought I cooled down until tutor told me today she just wasn't listening...work slacking and singlish compositions  I know she has slacked this holiday, so enough is enough.

I wish I can be elegant but when these 2 fellas are not performing/doing their work properly...I cannot be demure.

Janet, we all have such days and we understand perfectly.

You might try 'selling' the need and reason for hiring the tutor. Your daughter needs to 'buy in' to the idea of these lessons. Takes time and effort but once the child takes ownership of any undertaking or project, more than half of battle won.

I take hard love approach. I grit my teeth and say no to whimsical requests. For my elder child, when she fared badly in math and asked for external help, I deliberated. I was willing to get a tutor but I wanted her to work out logistics and 'convince' me that that's the best approach. When I relented, she was very grateful and assured me that she would do her best with additional help.

                  mawar,

my daughter started off very well with the tutor...over time her English slacked and with the MT exemption, English is her only language which she must do well in. son on the other hand is the reverse...he is starting to mature under tutor's coaching...these 2 fellas

regarding her endless stomping, I decided to put a stop to that nonsense once and for all. it has been a while but I ignored her...finally I couldn't take it anymore coupled with tutor's complaints.

after yours truly erupted, all seems well.
