      Janet

Retina detachment is a serious matter
One of my colleagues has it done at SNEC and was given about a month MC
The patient has to look down most of the time during the period of recovery
What are the symptoms of retina detachment?
My colleague said that like having a curtain in his eye!
Yes. Retina detachment is like having a curtain blacked out in the eye. If nothing is done, the person will go permanently blind.
This is his 2nd time! First time it was in left eye. Now right eye.
Symptoms would be cloudy in the eye, either upper or lower half. Then it would be black out curtain.
During this 1 month, the patient has to lie face down so that the gas put in during the op will push the retina back into position. For patients with retina detachment, cataract will occur 1 year after that. This is a side effect. Also retina detachment can happen again. The eye or eyes are no longer perfect as there is a tear.
My patient doesn't seem to understand eyes are very important. I am like a mother hen making sure he is face down. :slapshead:

Did you apply for the flats near Keming Pri?
That site is real convenient to supermarkets and wet market
Aug is not that far from now šŸ™‚
        All the best to you

        Starlight,
It has been a mad period for the past 2 days.
Hubby has urgent eye operation...retina detachment to be exact.
Went to SGH A&E on Monday morn. Doctor scheduled his op on Thursday when vision in one eye was already serious :faint: explained to the doctor why op had to be carried out asap. Fortunately he squeezed in at 5pm. I was at SGH from 7am to 9pm on Monday. Went to SNEC for post op review, he had seizure when nurse was cleaning his eye...first time he encountered this. I was totally shocked. After the eye review, went to A&E for checkup. Had battery of tests done. Tests showed brain & blood tests normal. Another long day until 9pm. Doctor told him he had to lie face down so that his retina would be in place after the op. But this patient is not obedient :stompfeet:

Just catching up on your news. That is a stressful two days indeed! Is everything stabilised now?

What does he do if not lying face down?

Janet - sorry to hear about your husband's eye. I hope he will heal well and quickly - for your sake too!

Hope eye recovers well and for my sanity. How can a person who had retina detachment twice be so ridiculously stubborn???

Does he have anything to listen to while lying face down? It must be really boring, besides being uncomfortable. He has to maintain the position, but maybe get him some audio books or music?

Retina detachment is no joking matter. If fully detached, there goes the sight in that eye. Good thing it was discovered early enough.

BIL had a scare recently as well. He was experiencing some floaters. Sis who had retina detachment before insisted that he goes for a check. BIL has only 1 good eye due to uncorrected lazy eye when he was young. Found out that he has a tear in the retina. A laser procedure was arranged to fix the tear and it was done the following day.

Sis was very worried. Even though she works, with 1 kid heading to uni and another still in primary school, if BIL loses his sight, it will be tough financially. Moreover, BIL is like a pillar for the family, even for his parents.

I think the stress for Janet is even more since her hubby is the sole breadwinner.

Retina detachment is due to old age?

Haha... am old fashion and stubborn
I guess the design and layout of that library just doesn't click well with me
I would still have to visit it since it is more convenient than the library in West Mall
I decided to pick up reading again instead of focusing on \"oppa\"

Other than bathing, eating and sleeping, he has to lie face down. After medication, he should be tired. Son has an orthodontist appt 2moro....I have to be there as he needs to get a procedure done. Will leave him at mum's place so that he doesn't act hero when alone.
When lying face down, he can listen to songs. This is a difficult period for him but no other choice.
