      Hi All,

Yesterday, I received the book on the admission to secondary one in 2009 (Part Two) - Information on secondary schools.

On page 12, there is a list of 8 schools that are currently offering IP and participate in the S1 posting exercise for PSLE students.

The 8 schools in alphabetical order are :

      Anglo-Chinese School (Independent )
      Dunman High School
      Hwa Chong Institution
National Junior College (Secondary Section )
      Nanyang Girls' High School
      Raffles Girls' School (Secondary )
      Raffles Institution
      River Valley High School

Pls kindly share your views/thoughts about the above mentioned schools.

I thank you for your time and helpful feedbacks.

      Warmest regards.

      😄

          ACSI (boys)

          Dunman High (co-ed)
          HCI (co-ed??)
          NJC Sec (co-ed??)
          Nanyang (girls)
          RGS (girls)
          RI (boys)
          River Valley high( co-ed)

Based on this I will eliminate all the co-ed schools and zoom in on the gender of my kid. This will virtually help reduce my choice to 2 schools. To me, all above are good schools but being in a single gender school in secondary is important criteria for my personal choice.

HCI is boys for first 4 years. The girls join in from Nanyang in Year 5 or JC1. Same for RI, the girls from RGS join in from Year 5. For ACS(I), I am not sure which year the girls will join in.

I have some doubts, hope someone can help me.

What happen if the child finds could not cope with the syllabus or lost the interest in year 4 and decided to change to Poly. Since not taking 'O' level exam, how can the child apply Poly ? And the the child drop out somehow, his highest cert would only be PSLE ? Can he still take 'O' level as private candidate ? Would the syllabus taught in these IP schools sufficient or eligible for the child to take 'O' level privately ?

              Thanks 🙂

In the case where the IP school identifies that the child is unable to cope with the IP Programme, they will ask the child to switch to the normal 'O'-level programme. Some school have other students doing 'O'-level, so it's just a transfer to the other stream. For the IP schools that do not have 'O'-level track, they may ask the child to transfer. But this should not happen in Year 4. Normally by end Year 2 or Year 3, the change should have been done.

I suppose anyone can take 'O'-level as a private candidate. But if you are doing the Science stream, you will not have enough practice for practical lessons in the labs.

                  I am in a dilemma.Based on last year’s COP :

                  Dunman High School - 260
National Junior College (Secondary Section ) - ?
Nanyang Girls’ High School - 265
                  Raffles Girls’ School (Secondary ) - 266
River Valley High School - 254

I got 260. Could I use merit in HCL to add 2 bonus points to become 262 if I apply for SAP schools? Heard that DHS’s COP is very high and that those getting borderline COPs do not automatically get into DHS.

                  Hi Lizawa,

After deducting DSA students, how many left for S1 intake for NJC?
Any chance for me to get into NJC since this is the first year that they are taking Sec 1 students for IP? Will the COP be high ?

                  Warmest regards.

                    Hi Vanilla Coke,

Congratulations for the good results ! Well done ! My son also scored 260+, and got admitted to HCI already.

Yes, you can use the additional points from HCL to get into the SAP schools. I think this year's cut off will not be that high, so you can always try Nanyang Girls, followed by Dunman. But for RGS, no, you cannot use the additional points.

I don't know how many left for NJC, but I think you can safely assume 50% of the vacancies left. NJC first year intake is 150. The other school's total Sec 1 vacancy should be around 400. So assume 50% taken up for DSA, you get 200+ vacancy.

Finally, one chapter closed for your primary school life ! 😄

plus bonus point, you got 262. 99% you will secure a place in DHS. this year's COP will be lower than last year
