with this forum, the principals of some schools who didn't want to announce the top scorers in their school, wonder how they feel. Parents ask they refused to tell. Come on be open minded.

agree with you. my teacher also refused to tell me.

The school nearby my residence, top PSLE scorer is from a country with one billion population and 14 years old.

What i observed is there are many parents and kids who are caught by surprise with the big difference betw actual and expected psle t-scores as there seemed to be a big drop in t-score this year, affecting many people. If my observation is correct, then i would say this yr’s 220+ could be last yr 230+ and so forth and not that the kid’s performance has dropped. Guess the parents and the kids would feel better that way and move on.

Desserts:

I also suspect those out of the box kind of questions, like Olympiad math quests came out during psle. Dd and most of her classmates were not exposed to these kind of questions before, so sort of stumbled a little. I have not seen those questions in her math file. Dd and friends, aft the math paper, came out paled face and said 'this time sure die'. But also hrd many pupils from some schools saying it's easy.
Those \"good\" neighborhood schools might also have good methods and strategies to help their pupils achieve such stunning% and high agg.

Dunno if I'm analyzing correctly. 🤷
Really ah..die..I never expose those Olympiad Maths to my kids and neither does the school. I trust the schools to teach whatever needed to score in exam incl PSLE. If that is the case, does that mean I shd start researching on such courses?

That's why they got into GEP in the first place...

See that is the problem! When I asked why many geppers can't score well though some did very well! The geppers' mom will jump n say the geppers r not prepared for scoring psle!! R u saying they r not truly gifted?

There are two countries with one billion population or more. Which one?
But either one, a lot of locals cannot beat as they are older. Hope they look seriously into this inequality.

Perhaps out of 569 GEP, the most 10% to 20% make it to the top among the top. Wasting tax payers’ money, grooming them and yet only few can make it.
This seems to be true for 5 kids I know, out by at least 1 big figure from expectations.

True for my DD. But what does this mean?
1. Cohort mean score has gone up
2. number students having 260+ t-score have increased significantly.

I'm puzzled too. Could it be 1 or 2 schools producing too many top scorers and thus pulling others down?
Nobody to answer our questions. Don't know where to find the answers.Very stunned n puzzled.
My daughter was in the top 10 range in her school. Now the others who were far behind has overtaken her.
Now I know how the hare, in the tortoise and hare story, felt after the tortoise had won(though we did not fell asleep like the tortoise).
I have spoken to my kid's tutor earlier. He said some of his students in the top of their respective classes saw their T Score dropped significantly. The same happened to my kid as his result is below what he is capable of. This is a big surprise to the tutor and he said some of his students' parents will be going back to their kids' school to try to find out why the large difference in PSLE results and school results.
I happened to check the Learning Lab website tdy and was shocked to learn that many of these top scorers over the years are from learning lab. I remember some of these top scorers claimed they did not go for tuition but they are students of this expensive tuition centre. besides the point that these kids who score above 270 are from GEP, they get more training from this expensive tuition centre. Their names and scores are all provided in Learning Lab's website. Now I'm no longer so impressed with these kids' psle top scores. this shows if a kid can afford learning lab's fees and with their special high calibre coaching, scores 270 and above, this doesn't make them more intelligent than other kids who cannot afford the expensive tuition fees. it just shows with more thorough coaching kids can do better than their peers. that doesn't sound impressive anymore!
I guessed with greater exposure to diversify questions and adopting different approaches in understanding (or answering questions) difficult questions and equipping good analytically skills can then enable a child to think out of the box? Too less (exposure) will put them in the rear passenger seats as compare to those already in the driver seats. Students with less privileges or access to these premium tuition centres will never out beat them? What's your take on this, parents?

I reckon the fee is sky rocket high? I can never afford to send my kids to these 'high end' tuition centres. :moneyflies: Oh... btw, any one know what's the charges in The Learning Lab (SG) like? :please:

I think what the MP Mr Hri Kumar Nair and most parents are calling for DSA for GEP students to be scrap as it is seen as an advantage to skip PSLE which is a major educational stress point. Just like IP program should also be scrapped as O level is skipped. 🦆
In that vein, then we might as well call for DSA to be scrapped for athletes, musicians, etc. Also 'unfair' advantage for them right?

This is an interesting phenomenon. I observe, so far, no calls to scrap DSA through other domains. No one quibbles about their 'rights'. Only geppers are targeted... hmmm. Intellectual prowess (for want of a better description) vs other talents... and schools should only welcome talents other than geppers with open arms? Otherwise they are deemed as discriminating against mainstreamers. :yikes: And that will be unacceptable! Cos, you know, they are the majority...

Melodies. Scoring well in psle has nothing to do being 'gifted', which is actually a misnomer. Arggghhhh they really should rename the programme!
