Generally most people exhibit academic ability in either language or math. The lucky ones have both. To me both language and math are of equal importance. However, currently, those good in math (high mean) are enjoying greater advantage in the aggregate T-score ranking system.
      Hi atutor2001,
Any idea which group of kids will perform better in secondary? The ones who are strong in maths or language ?

      Thanks!

    • RE: PSLE 2012 - Results Discussion

What i observed is there are many parents and kids who are caught by surprise with the big difference betw actual and expected psle t-scores as there seemed to be a big drop in t-score this year, affecting many people. If my observation is correct, then i would say this yr’s 220+ could be last yr 230+ and so forth and not that the kid’s performance has dropped. Guess the parents and the kids would feel better that way and move on.

This seems to be true for 5 kids I know, out by at least 1 big figure from expectations.

True for my DD. But what does this mean?
      1. Cohort mean score has gone up
      2. number students having 260+ t-score have increased significantly.

I'm puzzled too. Could it be 1 or 2 schools producing too many top scorers and thus pulling others down?

I observed that there is a drop in the psle score expectation this year. Kids who expected themselves to get around the 260+ range has dropped to 250+ and those who expected to get 250+ has dropped to 240+ …etc. Anyone has the same observation as me? Overall, many parents and kids experienced disappointments as actuals did not match expectations. I may be wrong but did find some coincidences.

      Hi,

Do let me know how's the bus service. I heard some parents complained about the bad service and would like to hear those feedback. For confidentiality, you can pm me instead.

      Thanks![/q

      Hi Oldies,

Generally, it depends on which bus number that runs your area. We used to have 2 ex-bus uncles whom the kids liked and very responsible but this recent one my 2 kids complained and didn't like him from day 1. This bus driver didn't allow the kids to eat in the bus though I understand he was afraid the smell and the kids littered the bus. I still think at least restrict them eat something light eg. bread cos the poor kids from morning session dismissed at 1.30pm and by the time some of them reached home will be 2.15-2.30pm. And imagine if their recess is at 9.30 how are they going to tahan till reach home?!

The next thing was the bus driver told the kids to keep quiet and no talking in the bus?! This is really ridiculous, I think. The bus driver wrote down the names of kids who talked and passed to Mr Quek who is the Operational Manager of Rosyth! I called the bus company though my kids not listed in his list and gave them a piece of mind saying the new bus uncle shouldn't drive school bus! How can he stopped the kids from talking cos kids are kids, they tend to chat with bus friends. He can ask the kids to lower their volume if they talked too loudly but he cannot ask them to keep quiet!

I certainly hope that Rosyth will change their contract with the bus company cos the drivers are no longer as considerate as before and I have seen some foreign bus drivers driving very fast once they are out the school gate. And the only thing I am thankful is that my kids' bus driver is not foreigner.

      Hi dohdoh,
It's good to feedback to Rosyth Ops Manager so that when it's time to review the bus service contract, there will be some forms of records for the school to review. Else Rosyth will assumed no complains means good service rendered which is not true.
