My child secured seat in zhangde primary school (2011) but she is in india.School had sent letter regarding the orientation program on November 20. Since my child is in india, Is that fine to skip the orientation. Shall I attend ? Will there be any issue with admission.

No it is not mandatory. If your registration is confirmed, then no issue at all.
My 2 cents...
Its just that P1 is a big step for kids - from a small kindergarten environment, they move on to huge campus. Instead of 50-100 kids , here there will be over 1000. The teachers are not always supervising all the areas. So a child might feel a bit overwhelment on the first few days.
Orientation helps them familiarize with their class rooms, canteen, library, toilets, water stations etc.
If your child is an extrovert , feels comfy in new surrroundings then should be ok. Otherwise a visit would be in order.U could talk to the school and explain ur case, see if you can bring her down in during the school holidays just to look around. -
Oh, i heard fr a parent that some schools may use Orientations to stream your kids into classes. They make them do art and English/Maths exercises while we parents are listening to the briefings. Then they use those exercises to stream them.

Wow :!: I didn't know about such things.
For my son, he was not streamed during the orientation...he was just allocated in a class based on the registration phase...streaming took place at the end of P1 and also end of every year. -

For my dd's school, allocation to classes is random -

It should be ok if the child is not in Singapore. Just that you would need to do your own follow up where getting the uniform, book list. I don't think the school would take attendance on that day! -
Hi vicki,
I heard CHIJ TP streaming starts at P2.
Remember someone mentioned that the culture at CHIJ family of schools is not stressful...hope I feel this way next year.

better to check with school if need to bring the child for orientation.
my neighbour (whose gal is gng to same sch as mine next yr), says she asked if can dun bring kid cos her gal has music lesson on the O day, but the staff says need to bring as there’s a "small test"…
talked to my gal’s kindy classmate’s mummy (gal also gng same sch next yr) and she also says she called the sch to check (as they’ll be gng on holiday), the staff told her need to sit for a test. if not in SIN on the O day, can take the test upon return. and it’s MOE requirement / the results need to be submitted to MOE kind of thing…
