All About Pimples
-
My dd is entering puberty and naturally she is starting to experience the bane of most teenagers - acne & pimples.
She has 1 big acne growing on the centre of her nose and my dh just commented to her that she is going to be a “rhino” as her “horn” is getting bigger. She got so pissed off.
Just what you parents do to help when your dd or ds is facing this problem. I hope to help her before her whole face “erupts” with acne and pimples like a “volcanic eruption”. -
When my mum noticed that my sis was starting to have acne, she brought her to our regular beautician for advise. We bought a cleanser, toner and pimple gel for her. I think the brand is Dermadex or something like that. It’s a SG brand that’s designed for teenagers.
Now my sis has very nice complexion and only gets around 1 small pimple a month (when her menses is about to arrive).
My mum tried to tell my sis about cleansing routine but my sis refused to listen. She only listened to the beautician, so my mum said that sometimes we need to pay for others to tell our kids the exact same thing before they’ll listen.
You can bring your girl to get some cleanser & pimple gel off the shelf at Watsons or Guardian. If she does not want to listen to you, then you probably have to try bringing her to a beautician.
My regular beautician does facial for students at $25. My sis follows me for facial occasionally (when she’s having a breakout due to stress). -

From my own experience, I started out with skincare from Blackmores range from Australia in my late teens ie cleanser, toner, moisturizer made from natural ingredients. It was really good, but they have discontinued the products. You may want to look at the Bodyshop range or other brands that carry 'natural' products. My dd is entering puberty and naturally she is starting to experience the bane of most teenagers - acne & pimples.

I didn't really have a pimple problem, but when one or two erupted, I would dab on calamine lotion w or w/o menthol. It worked wonders. I recommended it to my niece who had eruptions all over her forehead and it worked wonders for her too. Now all three of them use it. I would also use it as a mask
Anyway, I still use calamine lotion and so does DH is the occasional pimple erupts. -

Wow, so young go for facial. Just wondering if there will be any side effects to her skin in future like being exposed to chemicals early will cause early wrinkles, pigmentation, etc ?When my mum noticed that my sis was starting to have acne, she brought her to our regular beautician for advise. I have smooth and fair skin, which is the envy of many women  ... But cant say the same for my face though... Have always had to deal with acne and pimples on my face even until now.
I wish I started taking care of my face earlier... Think the following are considerations/steps that you wish to follow:
1) Keeping face clean to reduce the occurrence of breakouts. If need be to have your DD bring along a mild cleanser to school to wash her face occassionally. I use Cetaphil by Galderma which is very mild, it is also rinse free
2) You may wish to consider getting tea-tree oil to help with her breakouts... I use the ones from Body Shop to help reduce complications from inflammations. Currently that have promotion buy 2 for the price of 1... Bought two recently for $16.80.
3) To help with her confidence/apperance... Consider getting concealer (that do not clog the pores) to help her cover up her breakouts. Some breakouts may make her look \"angry\" so to sooth her looks and give her some confidence, concealers does help.
Her breakouts are possibly due to hormonal changes (so you may assure her that it is a passing phase) or could be due to genes... But she must remember to take care of her hygiene (no picking on acnes or touching her face excessively etc) to alleviate the problem.

hi cjs, to keep pimples under control, my 12yo son uses this routine
- wash with t3 cleanser
- every night - use acne clear pimple treatment lotion (avail from guardian) followed by retacnyl tretinoin (0.025% - from doctor) and then acne clear imple treatment cream (guardian)
And if the blackheads n what-not start to appear, use the ginvera marvel gel. its very effective to get rid of them, though I wont say remove totally…to remove totally, have to extract at beautician which i wont recommend for 12yo.
There’s a acne range from faceshop in seoul called clintia: facial foam n clarifying spot treatment gel which are very good for my 17yo. She’s been raving abt it and its a pity its not available here. got it for son to use too. -
I will suggest bringing her to a dermatologist if the condition is severe.
We need anitibiotics sometimes. Me too -

Yeap I have Doxycycline on stand by in case the acne blows out of control ... I start on a course of antibiotics to help with the healing... but this is not preferred as I do not want to be overly reliant on antibiotics :stupid:I will suggest bringing her to a dermatologist if the condition is severe.

Hi Zack,
I also take doxycycline. It works for me.
I usually finish the whole course of antibiotics.
When my skin condition improves, I will stop taking.
However, as the doctor says, we have to finish the whole course for the antibiotics to work -

For student facial, she uses the mild cleanser that my sis uses, exfoliation scrub and steaming. Cleansing again, and moisturising mask.

Nice thing is she does not pressurise us to buy packages or new products. She actually told my sis that she can use the same face wash as me (Dermalogica) so don't have to buy but my mum said just buy a new set for her, so she recommended another brand for teenagers.
