      I think PSLE 2011 preparation should start early,at P5.

If your kid is P6 next year and preparation has not started,I suggest starting to read the P6 textbooks NOW for starters šŸ˜‰

Build a strong foundation in all the subjects so that your child will find it easy to cope with P5 and P6 syllabus. If a student has a weak foundation, he/she will find it a struggle to keep up not to mention do well during the last 2 years. Also, students will be less stressed comparatively. If your child is not a reader, now is the time to enforce it. Reading Straits Times is a must to build up a child's vocab. DS3 read very widely when he was young. He read the newspapers and Reader's Digest when he was in P3/4 (can't remember when he started). As such, English is a breeze to him and his teachers are stunned by his general knowledge. He learns more on his own than what is being taught in school. He may not be top in his class but his knowledge surpasses all his peers (too bad they don't test current affairs and his knowledge is not translated into grades. However, it does help him one way or another e.g. in writing compo and understanding Science concepts). šŸ˜‰ As for Maths and Science, if a child is weak, it means that he/she has not grasped the basic concept. Therefore, when he/she enters P5 and P6, he/she will have a hard time catching up cos the syllabus is like building blocks laid one on top of another - with the more difficult blocks on top.

PSLE science scope test all the way from P3 to P6. If you wait till P6 then go revise P3 to P5 stuff, that will be extremely demoralising due to its sheer volume

By revising earlier, it builds foundation and application skills, and gain confidence along the way

During the Sc exam in p4 and p5, besides the newly taught topics, the past topics are also tested.

Yes, I would think so next year math paper is a hard one.So, must really train ds to think out of the box.Merely practising and doing the routine questions probably will survive the routine questions but not out of the box kind of prob sums.

Having said that, I still think our children should have a deserving holidays, and this period should only be a warm up period for them, race begins next year.

                  cheers,

                  leanne

My boy had his PSLE in 2010, and all the papers were relatively easy.

As a result, PSLE 2010 top score dropped and the EESIS COP dropped. 2011 Sec School admission is expected to drop.

All these are due to the easy papers for 2010 PSLE.

having hard papers is not necessary is bad thing. if your child is very bright, it is only through hard papers that he can show his true potential.

                  Fully agree

True. In fact the recent SA2 Exam the topics covered all way from P3 to P5.

As for maths, we can see the new topics of ratio and percentage in P5 will be cover again in P6. Fraction start from P2 until P6 too.

Most important, you must able to link fraction, ratio and percentage together.

My son will be doing PSLE next year and I agree that prepapration has to start early. Esp to revise the Pr.3 & 4 science.

So I started science tuition with this ex teacher to cover Pr 3 & Pr. 4. Whole of Novemeber we covered Pr 3 and now Pr 4 for December bec I think he must get the basic concepts right.

As for maths he is also doing sums everyday so that he is not out of touch.

All the best to all parents who have kids doing PSLE in 2011…
