Very true. Actually even students from humble JCs can do very well in uni. -
At the end of the day, a good university degree is more important than PSLE, O Levels or even A Levels, unless you are eyeing scholarships.

I do admission interviews for uni. The best students don't come from RI. The most impressive ones are from polytechnics. Boys are better than girls (because of army I suppose), the ones with varied activities much better than the ones who study only. I fail (they probably can't get in once we fail them) those who are selfish and expect teachers/profs to hand out everything. Definitely, if you show no respect for your fellow students, we don't want them as well. Those from elite schools tend to fall into those categories. Poly students are the humble and nice to teach ones. Many top the unis.
they are quite street-smart too and more hands-on -

Yes your have proven that one needs to believe in oneself and sheer determination and hard work will pay off. You are a great mum and your DD2 is a tough fighter. Well done :salute:
What we need to teach our kids is hardwork and perhaps learning to take failure and handle things accordingly. Sometimes, we can work to get things our way, sometimes, it is better to move on and work on something more worthy, which is what we did. I agree DD2 did a good job. She achieved a GPA that many 5 years older could not. PSLE is only a little hurdle we have to cross, no one else in the world will look at it after secondary posting and perhaps a week or two in the sec schools. Certainly not when you want to go to the university, not when you want to get a job, not even when you apply for JC. Please remember, remember everyone. -

Ranking is by merit i.e. T-score and in the event that there's only one place left and they both have the same T-score right down to the decimal places, they look at citizenship and if it's still the same, it's ballot.711:
My DD hope to enter Cedar but with the score of 244, it is safe to put cedar as 1st choice and crescent as 2nd choice?
Will the MOE system give others who put Crescent 1st choice as priority?
Correct me if i am wrong. So long your merit meet the entry of your next choice the system will still consider your entry prior to those who put Crescent as their 1st choice -

Congrats! Your dd's achievement is indeed no mean feat. Life doesn't always hand us what we want nor is it always fair. Learning to be able to handle failure is important. Unfortunately, that's something that they don't teach in schools, so it must begin at home.

Exactly! So you see, in unis entrance, first they look at the results and short list, you don't really need straight As to be shortlisted, then they look at your CCA and service. By the time they reach us, we have to rank who we like to teach. We have straight As, a mix of As and Bs, and so on. We don't know who are the As, or Bs etc. We rank them according to their attitude and their strengths in communication. If the child has spent all his life just mugging and pushing thinking he is the almighty god, he will never make it, because we will 'kill' them at the interview round.2ppaamm:

The success rate to the local uni is very low, especially the choice faculties, work on the character of the child as well, don't bother about the school, as long as the school can provide a good education. Work on making him/her a worthy person. I think that is so much more important. Among my top students, only 1 or 2 are from RI. Most are from polys - humble, down-to-earth, great communication skills, handson, not kiasu, always share with their classmates.

I can see some parents whose kids scored btw 249+2 - 252 hoping to get into an IP school. Sometimes i wander whether they shld be in O-level track and make their choices after the O-level exam. Academically speaking, many of these kids are potential polys’ scholarship holders.
