Comparing English Enrichment Programmes

Yup, twice weekly. How do u find the program ? So yr son will continue with their P1 immediately after?
The programme is well constructed. It did cover P1 syllabus well. How did i know? I have compared it with some P1 assessment books. Every week my child brings home 2-4 pages of worksheets and 1 story book. Some story books are chapters. I am still weighing which centre to continue after my child completes this. On top of LP, my child has advanced reading & comprehension programme in ICR which completing soon. -
Thanks for the feedback. Frankly speaking, I am quite worried about the twice weekly schedule. Hope DS can cope.
LP has always been a popular choice amongst parents. Thought you should stay on cos their programmes are catered up to JC level. Just my 2 cents worth.
Btw, which centre is your DS in? He is in P1 next year? -

I am considering those centre which emphasis more on the composition. Yup, my child is P1 next year. He is with Parkway branch. Thanks for the feedback. Frankly speaking, I am quite worried about the twice weekly schedule. Hope DS can cope.

Oh I see. Most centres start creative writing at P3 level. Your DS should be way advanced.

I think RG is quite ok.
As for Growan, I think its a mass production thingy cos the rate is cheap. The turnover rate there also very high. Some kids are already very good when the parents send them in.So, for the average students, I am not sure how great one grade can improve.I dont have good impression of this centre.
Just my one cent of thought.ck123:

Heard that myhometutor at Jurong East uses NIE trained teachers to do tuition. Maybe you would like to consider for the best interest of your child. My child is currently having maths tuition classes over there. So far so good.
Any recommendation for English tuition centre in Jurong East. My son is in Primary 4.skkitty:
I would like some suggestions and recommendations as I wish to send my P1 son for English tuition lessons to strengthen especially on his grammar. Parents any recommendations?
Thanks -
Dear Mummies,
Please help to advise wat kind of tuition or enrichment class at a really affordable fees.. to go for as my P1 son doesn't really know a lot of words in English, cannot really read...as he does not have a basic foundation in reading, phonics, etc.......
At wits end...I cannot coach him personally as I'm a working mother & also lack of patience...
Need advise URGENTLY.....
Thanks in Advance~~~ -

English is a language subject and foundation is very important. Since you are unable to coach, you may consider enrolling him with tuition centre like I CAN READ that focuses on teaching phonics. I am sure there are othercentre that you can explore. Once your son know how to read using phonics, words will come easy to him and he will start to enjoy reading. Please do not panic since he is only in P1. I believed there is no major exam at lower primary. He still has time to catch up.Dear Mummies,

Did he attend preschool? What did he learn there? What language do you speak at home? Is his spoken English OK? Meaning, does he use complete sentences, decent grammar and vocab? Do you read to him at home? Does his school have some kind of learning support programme? You can ask his teacher.
Not all kids find phonics useful in learning to read. Some kids learn by whole word recognition, then work ‘backwards’ to figure out some phonics rules. So it could be that phonics is not the best way for him to learn to read.
I can’t advise you about tuition, but however busy you are, can you spend 15 mins a day reading to your son? Don’t teach or test him during the time, but just read for enjoyment. Choose something he wants to hear, and let him learn to enjoy the world of words. Over time, he will improve his mastery of English, and will gradually pick up the reading habit. Hope this helps. -

I second this! Best if it is 30 min to 1 hr.Did he attend preschool? What did he learn there? What language do you speak at home? Is his spoken English OK? Meaning, does he use complete sentences, decent grammar and vocab? Do you read to him at home? Does his school have some kind of learning support programme? You can ask his teacher.
