so sorry, don't know how to \"quote\" lizawa's comments in brackets. Help?

Insert this right at the beginning:
      lizawa:[quote=\"lizawa\"]
It should come out nicely after that.

On another point, if I may just add, if there's any 'work' to be done during the hols, do ensure that they read, read and read a lot during the hols! English in sec school is nothing but essays and summaries. No more synthesis or filling in the blanks! Their good command of the language will help them tremendously. Sharing what I went through....
Thanks prancingpony for the good pointers. I think this does not only apply to english reading, we should also encourage them to read widely both in English and Chinese. Maybe start with reading newspapers on a daily basis πŸ™‚

You're absolutely right, lizawa. Newspapers to start off with, though it will not be an easy task. πŸ˜„ I have to, more often than not, sit with him and flip through the papers together to find articles that will be of interest to him. And I can guarantee, halfway through, he'll say he's tired already. Hais...why don't they love reading? Should have followed the example of Mrs LKY. Put shelves of books in their bedroom when they were young and ban tv. πŸ˜„

Great idea , yes we should do that !
But wait , what about my serials??sob sob I neeed them, sigh!

DD loves to read to the point of obession. What i grumble about is the stuff she reads - mostly mystery/thrillers .Second is reading for hours together and straining her eyes.

Lizwa, your pointers are very good - it is a changing phase for them as students and for us the parental role. Not easy I guess, but these hols maybe we can get started....

Many times, as parents, we worry that our kids are not doing the correct things acccording to scripts. Actually alot of such concerns are unnecessary. Let the kids do what they like as we keep an eye on them from a distance.

They have to be more independent as they progress to secondary level.

Hi mummyjoyce, have you enrolled your girl for public speaking programme already? I know of a place and not too sure if it is good. It is Academy IG and its link is http://www.academyig.com/.

I am considering for my girl. Thank you.

                        Cheers!
