    Is PSLE so important?

      Hi I'm pretty much of a newbie here... this is literally my first time...so I hope you would excuse me for any awkwardness. My parents aren't really kiasu anymore because they know my siblings and I are motivated enough to study on our own....so the reality is that I am really the 'Kiasu' family member....


      However, as I grow up, I find myself slacking and having less mood to study...
      It is esp. a very bad time to be so as Psle is less than a month away for me.....

      Some subj. I have dropped this yr while one has climbed up a lot....I'll show you what I mean...

      ca1-

      english- 76.5
      mathematics- 99.5
      science- 88

      raw score: 264 ( I am exempted from MT)
      estimated agg. : 253.7

      sa1-

      english- 73.5 ( I dropped to a B)
      mathematics- 92 ( I guess it was tougher)
      science- 88.5

      raw score: 254
      estimated agg. : 243.5

      As you can see, I dropped in my maths and english. I improved in my science by 0.5 marks...which isn't that great. I have to admit that I did not prepare well for these exams. However, I find myself struggling no matter what in my english (please help me)

      Prelim-

      english-73.8
      mathematics- 90
      science-91

      raw score: 254.8
      estimated agg. : 243.8

      This I admit, I PREPARED VERY BADLY. I was in somewhat in a stage of denial and I somehow could not bear facing books and assessment papers. I am really worried but I find myself not being able to help it. I want to be accepted into NUSHS or NJC and my teacher says I am very capable of it from seeing my daily work...but at this rate, I might be being 'unrealistic'. PSLE is only a few weeks away and I am very worried. Now that I am 'pressured' I am able to sit down and study but find myself procrastinating and being distracted most of the time. I am not trying to brag, but what really upsets me is that I used to be able to score A* for every subj. even, english- which I find extremely difficult to do as I grow older. If anybody has solutions, PLEASE REPLY A.S.A.P.
      I HOPE ONE OF YOU CAN SUGGEST TO ME ANY SOLUTIONS YOU HAVE IN MIND THAT MIGHT WORK BECAUSE I AM VERY DESPERATE. thanks πŸ™‚
      Dear Kiasu Girl98,

      I am a Mom with a girl who is taking her PSLE this yr, like you. So in a way I can understand your anxiety as my daughter sometimes get distracted too. Perhaps you shld find out why you are distracted? Maybe studying in your bedroom is too stifling ? Or maybe you spend too long a time with your revision, you need breaks in between, like watch a bit of TV, play some games or chat with your friends etc. You may also want to talk to your parents / elder siblings abt your anxiety. Take it easy, dont stress yourself up, I think you can perform well (looking at your grades). Tell yourself just do your best so that whatever your final grades are, you will not have any regrets as you hv done your best. Good luck !

          Hi Kiasu Girl98,

          You are not doing badly just that you could have done better.
          Don't just look at your score, as mentioned in other thread the t-score all depend on how the cohort perform. You just need to put in you best effort to start studying right now. The longer you wait the more time wasted. Focus is very important if you want to do well.

          All school set their paper at different level for prelim and i don't know how is yours. If difficulty level is high then your score is consider above average (actual score might be even 10 marks above your aggr). However, if difficulty level is low then your score might be considered low. No point dwelling over your pass result (as you do not have that much right now).             It is because you are good , and bcos you have a high expectation of your self- , you tend to be more harsh on yourself.
            For someone with your personality ( of what I persume ), You need to really ease up.
            If possible ask your parents to take you for walks
            - plenty of greenery has a way of putting things in prespective and claming the nerves.

            Its the last lap and obviously the jitters , thoughts of things could go wrong are floating in your mind.
            Just remind yourself - Life is full of challenges , PSLE is just one of them.
            Give it your best and move on.

            Personally I feel TV is not a good mode to relax for students since it sort of too over powering - buts thats me.
            After a break if you are feeling fresh then that break works for you, if you are more lethargic - then obviously its not right.
            Take short breaks for yourself - and sleep well at night. Its the most important act of the day.

              for catholic high paper one qn 2, the answer sheet indicates 3 but my dd’s answer is 2. Whihc is the correct answer? Can someone advice? Tq
