this question is similar to the question posted by 24hr-mum.

        Solution:
        124 - 36 = 88
        88 / 2 = 44
Therefore robert must give 44 cranes to john.

i still dun quite understand how to draw or interpret the model, but logically, for chloecube’s question, u can see it as such:

robert already has 124 more than john.
now, how to make that difference between them lesser? robert must give some more to john so that he has only 36 more (instead of 124 more) than John. so of cos robert must give some more.
next step, fixed the (new) difference between them to be 36. so any difference ie 124-36=88 will have to be shared between the two equally or else the difference wont be 36.
but how to make the child understand logically is a headache

                        another question:

John has 24 sweets more than Mary.
How many sweets must John give Mary so that Mary will have 12 sweets more than John?

                        how to draw the model?
