Help. Frantic advice for DS1 and DS2 needed.

Am I doing the right things with DS1. He has completed the first term of his P3, and struggles with Challenging Maths P3 by Sataya Sundar (EPH). Is it conceding defeat for me to take him back to the P2 book (which we did not complete), and for him to complete that before progressing to P3 again.

I will turn to DS2 in the P1 section.

I also have the same feeling. No matter what/how I taught my DD, she still does mistakes with some questions. Sometimes, careless and sometimes she really does not know. We should not take it as a failure. WE should let them keep practising. If the Challenging Maths is a struggle, you sit with him and go thro' some problems. Over the time, he should be fine with it. It reminds me that my challenging maths is sleeping in the bookshelf. Must pass it to my DD to see her reaction as well as to see her level of understanding 😄

My son in P4,he can do the normal qns.But I feel the qns in Challenging Maths P4 by Sataya Sundar (EPH) are very challenging.I just put the book away and planned to teach in the June.
Maths need lot of carefulness. My son any how do with given numbers, never think what is the qn.We did from the topical papers.
Now I planned to give the top school papers. After that may be I can try this book..

I find the Challenging Maths for p3 too challenging.. therefore, i hv kept it aside and just use the Maths challenging problems to coach him.

Just to check, I am very confused with the problem sums that contains desciption such as 1) as many as 2) thrice as much 3) twice as many 4) 4 times as many etc…etc…

How do I know for example the as many as refers to who? Like Lisa has as many marbles as Derek. So does it mean both of them has equal no of marbles?

Anyone can tell me if there is a easy way to identify the subject?

              Hi peapot!

yah, as many as means both has equal amount. U can define u means unit.
              Thrice means 3u and u.
when u draw the model u have to consider the size. eg: if u draw a 2cm lengthy rectangular for 10 marbles then u have to draw 3cm lengthy for 15 marbles.
              cheers!

Lisa has thrice as much as reena.

U have to draw two rect.one for Lisa one for reena

                Lisa's Longer and reena's shorter.
                Mark reena's u
                Lisa's 3 boxes as reena's

                L [U][U][U]

                R [U]

I use iPhone to answer, sorry I can't draw the actual picture.

                      Hi

The numbers are small.P3 kids may use Guess and Check.

You may also use “Make a Supposition”

                      Assume all were cats, we’ve 17*4 ------ 68

                      Cat ----- 4 legs
                      Bird ----- 2 legs

Difference in number of legs between a cat and a bird ------ 2

                      68 – 44 ----- 24
                      24/2 ------ 12

                      12 birds

                      (5 cats)

For more practice, please visit pg 25-27 of this link.

                        Hi,

                        Kindly help to solve :

Christine distributed 100 sweets among 5 bags.
Bag A and Bag B had 52 sweets altogether.
Bag B and Bag C had 43 sweets altogether.
Bag C and Bag D had 34 sweets altogether.
Bag D and Bag E had 30 sweets altogether.
How many sweets are there in Bag C?

                        Thank you in advance.
