        Cher2101:

        Hi can you please help me on these 2 questions.

        1). Bao Ming wants to buy 6 shirts but he is short of $7. If he buys 5 shirts, he will have $11 left. How much money does Bao Ming have?

        2). Ben had twice as many books as Eve. If Ben gave Eve 20 books, Ben will have 10 more books than Eve. How many books do they have altogether?

        1) $11 + $7 = $18
        $18 x 5 = $90
        $90 + $11 = $101

        2) they have 150 books altogether.

        Hi,
        Can question 1 be solved using multiple method?
        If yes, pls advise how to do it?
        Thank you in advance.

          Hi, what is the correct method to use to solve this question.This is a P3 question. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

          Qn1) For every $35 spent at a mall, a discount of $5 is given. Jane paid $360 for a sofa after the discount was given. What is the original price of the sofa? Mr Lim paid $500 for a TV after the discount was given. What is the original price of the TV?

          Both parts are similar. Problem is I don’t know which method to use to make my P3 child understand.

              I do not know any method, so i can only use guess and check

              $35 spend, $5 discount
              $420 spend $60 discount

              $420 - $60 = $360

              Original price of the sofa is $420.

                  Hi

                  for every $35, $5 discount --> discounted price = $30
                  Discounted price paid = $360
                  $360/$30 = 12 --> 12 x $5 = $60 was given
                  original price = $360 + $60 = $420

                  Discounted price for TV = $500
                  $500/$30 = 16R20 --> 16 x $5 = $80 discount was given
                  original price = $500 + $80 = $580

                  cheers.

                      i have a question that is from the previous page… but could not work out the ans…

                      Ann spent $5850 on some bags and wallets. She bought 5 times as many bags as wallets. She paid $4400 more for bags than wallets. Each bag cost $60 more than a wallet. Find the cost of one wallet.

                      Thanks
