      Dear Tian Zhu and parents

Need your help on how to present workings for these 2 questions:-

      (a) There were three times as many cats as dogs at the pet clinic. After 13 cats had left and another 5 dogs came to the clinic, there were an equal number of cats and dogs in the end. How many cats are there at the clinic at first?
      (b) Zachary is 10 years older than Douglas. In 4 years' time, he will be twice as old as Douglas. How old is Zachary now?
      Thanks.
      Hi

Need help on how to present working for this question :

Florence wants to give some pencils to every child in her class. If she were to give 2 pencils to each child, she would have 13 pencils left. If she were to give 3 pencils to each child, she would have 5 pencils left. How many children are there in her class?

              Hi allcc6 ,

              Extra pencils to be given away = 13 - 5 = 8

              Additional pencil to give to each child = 3 -2 = 1

              Number of children = 8 / 1 = 8 children (Ans)

                Hi

Need help to solve the below 2 questions:

                1) Mavis drank 3/8 litre of milk. Janet drank 1/4 litre more milk than Mavis. Samantha drank 1/2 litre less milk than Janet. How much milk did Samantha drink?

                2) Amy spent 3/10 of her money on a blouse and half of the amount she spent on the blouse on a bag. Then she spent the rest of her money on two pairs of shoes. If each pair of shoes cost $33, how much did she spent on the bag?

                  Q1

Draw a bar, divide into 8 units

                  Mavis ----- 3 units
                  Janet ----- (2 + 3) ------ 5 units
                  Samantha ------ (5 - 4) ----- 1 unit ------1/8 litres of milk

                  Q2

Use equivalents fractions to avoid working with decimals
                  3/10 ----- 6/20
