Congrats Brainkid! That's a great camera. Have fun! Experiment experiment experiment!
What's the lens kit the camera came with?
The lens is 18-55mm... :? sufficient to capture the future running athelete? -
Brainkid:
Can. You just have to play with your shutter and aperture to get the desired effect. If your running subject is too far away then you might want a lens with a bigger zoom. But play with this first.jtoh:

I am still trying to master the portrait pics with him in focus and background blurry...erm....end up whole thing is blur. I only read like few pages of the manuals..way to go man! -

Use aperture priority if you're not familiar with full manual. Make sure you focus on the subject. You should be able to get the shot.

My pro friends were laughing at the Sony Alpha. They say it's not a DSLR. It just gives the effect of a DSLR. Also, the lens don't seem to be inter-changeable. I would think Nikon D3100 would be a better choice for a beginner. My 2 cents worthI went to Cathay photo, they quoted $899 for nikon d3100.but they also recommended Sony alpha series, saying that Sony is now making better DSLR wor...price wise is quite competitive...and alpha can take full HD video leh...

I have that impression too. I think Sony's probably giving the retailers a better profit margin and that's why they're trying to promote it.

I'm not familiar with the two models you're talking about. For DSLR, read through this thread. If you have any further specific questions I'll see if I can answer.hi all,
