All About HFMD

Funz:
I guess it depends on the SOP of the centre with regards to HFMD. Some centres do not inform parents unless they have 2 or more cases. Some will inform only the parents of that class for initial cases and monitor to contain the spread. To understand how your child's centre manage HFMD cases and possible outbreak, do talk to them.
In the morning when I brought my girl back to the Child Care.
As stated on the notice. It stated 1 child only.
And plus, it's not like they have separate classrooms or different classes.
They are all in one big area with a separate music room only.
They just like have shelves to segregate the areas and these shelves is not those big ones. They are just like 1/3 height for them to put the child's bags. -
Carisella:
Well talk to the supervisor or principal to understand how they handle cases of HFMD and communication to parents. If there are areas where you are concerned about, raise it to them.Funz:

I am just saying that different centres adopt different ways of handling cases. There are many different types of childcare settings as well so their SOP will take into consideration all these. -

Sorry, I got confused by ur post.
The notice state 1 child. But the said child in the notice is not referring to your child but another child? :scratchhead:
So did your child got it from the school?
It happened to my DD2 as posted earlier about the herpangina.
The school did not inform. after PD confirmed with us, we immediately inform school. Still they did not sent out notice.
then like 2 or 3 days later, they finally send the email out to all parents. I was like ???. and the email notice stated 3 cases. So my DD2 got it from school. When PD asked us, we also said dun have in school cos we did not know about it.
It's not as if we did not inform the school early enough for them to react. Our DD2 is not the 1st case as it turns out from the notice. Ours should be the 2nd case.
What the doctors did in my case is that they will note the school name and they are required to report to MOH about it. child's name and school name.
If the school are late in reporting, maybe you can check with MOH and MSF on the SOP for all child cares. -

The child stated in the notice is not mine.
My girl got it on the 7th of May 2013
The child as stated in the notice got it on the 29th of April 2013
Your child's school sent out notice 2 to 3 days later.
My girl's was after 16 days then a notice came out.
In this case, I believe my daughter contracted it from school.
I'm just wondering why different child care have different practices. Such is considered a contagious disease, thus shouldn't all SOP be standardized across the board?
Oh and also. When my Mom spoke to the principal on the 6th of May 13 about my girl having 2 days MC due to her flu. The principal still did not tell us that there was a case of HFMD in the CC at all. -

I see. normally the principals wouldn't say any. My DDs CC have changed principals for 3 times and all 3 wouldnt say upfront. really weird. -
To share, we recently had a brush with HFMD, too. Not so straight forward sometimes. First of all, we were rejected at school because there was 2 little blister on my DS foot. When we went to see the GP, she says \"suspected HFMD\" - 3 days MC. But there was no fever, no ulcers, and no further blisters. So I updated the school and they sent out a notice as \"suspect case\".
3 days later went to see the GP - still no fever, no ulcers, and no further blisters but the ones he had hasn't subsided. So the GP said, mild case of HFMD. So we updated the school. But apparently the school could not update as a confirmed HFMD case until they see our MC / GP's memo and there were some problems obtaining that due to the GP opening hours. For all these infectious deseases, the childcare centre needs to inform MOH & MCYS - so they are more kiasu and won't anyhow just report.
Finally maybe Day 4 there was suddenly a confirmed case, so the memo came out for that case, and maybe Day 5 or 6 then the memo came out for ours. But they do inform parents when the last date the infected child was in school. Sometimes, there are also cases of which the parents did not immediately inform the childcare centre...

All she said was \"sorry, we will do better next time\" a bit disappointed.
I was so scared after reading about HFMD on the KKH website, the worst of it is that it can cause inflammation of the brain and heart if it's a serious case. My daughter has ASD and it wasn't something that I was going to gamble with

If you don't mind, you can ask your doctor for some antihistamines. Not those non-drowsy kind. Give it to your girl at night, it can help ease the itch and also help her sleep. Apply cooling lotions like calamine or aloe gel. -
Hi,
True, first priority is immune system of our kids!
and the next is air quality or environment control using air system technology.
my bro in law's son caught the HFMD and it really take pain to handle the son's condition and our emotion. tough call.
