This was the question to my DS \" How many school you applied\" and he honestly told 3 schools in total. U need to be careful if the question is \" if you have CO from X & Y school , which school will you choose\"
DS too was asked \"What is your next step if we did not make an offer to you?\"isetan:
If Dd applied for 5 schools and all schools called her for interview, will she spoil her chance of getting a confirm offer if she admit that she dsa 5 schools. Is this a very important consideration for the interviewer?
I suppose the interviewer will question why your DD choose 4 other schools other than theirs? So this question need to be tackled carefully n handled with tender care. -
She was asked this question and she list all 5 schools but her classmate who dsa the same school as us said she only dsa 2 schools so we wonder if we have killed our chance.
A lesson learnt. When it is my ds turn, we will have to be more selective and not be so K S. -

My one cents thoughts.
When my DS attended Science camp at HCI, they were told to build cars as well. Looks like, car dealers will face problems in future.. :rotflmao: oopss :offtopic:
1. If DC's know how to build cars then why study Sec 1. Atleast NUSH did nt :pokeeye: with such out of boundary questions They explained the experiment and observed how the kids performed and how they presented the details to the teacher and team work and leadership and their passion to what they do.
2. I dont think just getting SMOPS platinum will open doors to NUSH , DC's need to perform well in Science .I am sure KP's coming to Sat Tea Ceremony will know why when princi go thru the break downs of subject. It is really really very deep and kids have to have high interest in subject.
3. This year around 242 students had atleast one MO certificate but If you see the records only around 20 to 25 names are repeated (RI top 50, NMOS -30, SMOPS Gold/Platinum, APMOPS). Just having one MO cert is not
enough, there should be sustained performance shown.

DD was interviewed together with a whole batch of Sports Dsa gals for RGS. On Tues, there were 4 groups of 3 girls being interviewed. Heard that today was also reserved for Sports dsa interviews. For DD's sport I believe they are only intending to admit 2 girls under dsa.

no lah, leeven. HCI did not just leave it to the kids to build cars. The boys from HCI actually guide them through, using chemicals to build the engine.

I agree with you that the subjects in NUSH is indeed very deep. This is precisely why I discourage my DS to apply for NUSH. DS has high interest in Math, but not really so for Science. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought it's necessary for the child to be equally good in both subjects in order to qualify for NUSH. Since there're more talks on MO, maybe many of us has forgotten the fact that NUSH is not only looking at Math, but also Science. Other than this, it's leadership.
One of my colleague's DS was DSA to NUSH 2 years ago. He did not have any certificate & he's from mainstream. However, he's very out-spoken. My colleague told me that her DS was verbally told that he'll be selected during the camp cos he displayed the leadership skill. -
I have been following this DSA forum for a while. Noticed some children have DSA application with few schools, some even 11 schools!! From my opinion, I don’t think this is a good idea as one must understand how the DSA system works. While the parents are anxious if school A have no chance than can take up school B or whichever that give CO or WL (once on WL, most likely or 99% confirmed sure can get in the school), there is risk involved.
2 years back, I saw 2 cases from my son’s classmate in a dilemma situation where two boys (boy A and B) was accepted by Dunman High thru DSA. When the PSLE result released, boy A which have a high aggregate of more than 260, decided to have a change of heart and wanted to go HCI! He appealed and got what he wanted. Boy B which aggregate less than 260 also did an appeal to go HCI but was rejected twice (his aggregate is good enough to go HCI though), no matter how hard the parents tried.
The story here is DSA is not something like "no fish, prawn also can" attitude. Parents and child must really serious about the school they wanted thru DSA and there is no turning back. Appeal mostly will be rejected unless with very good reason or at the school discreet which will not disclose to parents… Imagine the agony the kids have to go through.
Many parents take DSA like a safety net. But always forgotten what if you DS, DD did very well in PSLE and all of a sudden you found that they can actually go to a top school choice by their aggregate and now they are tied up by CO with another school? Can you imagine the agony?
I hope parents take DSA seriously and when you think you are doing good for the children but it might turn out to become a nightmare. -

Totally agree! You should only DSA to the school that you really want to go. Otherwise, it is waste of time and energy.I have been following this DSA forum for a while. Hi! My son DSAed last year. Try to appeal to the Sch in Bishan although his T-score was more than the COP but was rejected.A little regretted. So a word of advice, DSA to your ideal Sch or else there'll be strictly no transfer once materialise yr option to DSA...

Personally I am neutral about how many schools kids shall apply for DSA. I have advised my DS before the DSA application started and warned him that the chances for him DSA to RI and HCI are very slim eventhough he got gold for smops and other math olympiad awards. He insisted give it a try and poor mummy has to go through all the hassles of applcation. Parents should know the kids very well, personally I think DHS is a good fit for my DS since he is in a SAP school now and encourage him to give it a try and his math teacher insisted he is good at math, shall try NUSH… The dsa schools’ list became longer and longer. My thinking is "no regret, at least we tried". What if my son can make it. Do we always being taught by all the specialists to believe in your child? DS didn’t prepare for the gat test or selection test, asked him just enjoy the whole process and tried his best if he can. And managing expectation is another aspect we all learned through this DSA. there are ups and downs, at least now I am more steady and prepared for all the outcomes that would come soon. My DS also learned something through the process, interviews were fun, he claimed, this might be the first interview in his life and he pened down all the funny questions being asked and we laughed together. He also has to embraced the rejection, he knows this is part of the live and he has to move on. These few months I realised DS become more mature, it might be the credit of the DSA appliction process. Saturday will be the DHS intervew, we wish all the kids good luck!
