      Hi Becontented,

I am very appreciate that you can understand. My son prepared for this competition for more than one year. I don’t know how to explain to him such thing(Some school teacher gave hints to their pupils in the competition is not fair to other pupils.). But i only can say :" You have tried your best and I am proud of you." I also told him SMOPS is very fair to every pupil and you can prove yourself in this competition.
      Hi every dad and mum,
When your son or daughter has put a lot of effort on his study, but in the end he or she must face the unfair competition, maybe you can understand my feelings.

Maybe I understand. RIPMWC (Raffles Institution Primary Mathematics World Competition) is one of the recognized competition. For those using such awards in their DSA application, the results matters.....hence the situation she quoted would be unfair to others.
heard from another parent whose son took the test last Fri in another school,... they were not straight in monitoring the competition, they left the kids with the comp and many of them can see one another's answers, ...

Does RIPMWC affect the DSA result to RI or RGS for GEP students ?

I understand your feelings.. And I apologize if I have sounded 'insensitive' in my earlier post.. FYI, my boy scored horribly low in most of the RI Math Olympiads (he was in P6 last year). He said RI Math Olympiads were the hardest MO he had ever sat for (compared to HCI's, NUSH's, NMOS, SASMO, SMOPS etc). However, my boy got a place in RI via DSA, and he is in RI Sec-1 this year. So, tell your son not to worry, as one MO will not affect your son's chance of getting into his dream school via DSA.

Btw, I'm still quite confused... What is the 'no.1 TOP primary school' you were referring to? If it was THAT school that had the error, why was your son affected? Finally, one wrong answer will not make a big difference in your son's final marks, so you don't need to worry so much.

            Hi firefly38,

Thanks for your understanding. Sorry that I can’t tell you the school’s full name. Your son must be a GEPER , right? I know that only gepers and sports can get into RI through DSA last year. One question means 4 or 6 marks and also means top 50 or top120. My son is from a very normal neighborhood school. If he wants to get into his dream school( of course not RI), he must work much more harder. He really did like that but…
The printing error is an excuse that the teacher gave a hint to his pupils . The test is an online one, it is impossible that only one school got such printing error!

If you feel so strongly about the unfairness of the test, why not raise it to the organizers and alert them to it?

Don't worry too much about the impact on your son's DSA. Tell him to work hard for his SA1 and SMOPS. He can still excel there and use those results to impress the schools.

                Hi,

did anyone attended NUS High Open House last Sat?
The principal said that the only National Exam that the students need to take is 2nd Language but I think he did not mention whether it’s in year 4 or year 6. Does anyone know? Does NUS High has higher mother tongue?

If you take HML is from Year 1 to Year 4. And if you take Normal Chinese, it will be Year 1 to Year 5. One of the students said the two exam will be ended up with the same cert.

They need to take O level chinese/2nd language (year 4) and A level chinese/2nd language (year 6).

My DS is taking HMT. So like what shurley197323 has said, if he is with NUS High, he'll need to take HMT from Year 1 to Year 4. Just like other IP school.

[quote=\"kwcllf\"]OK. Now I think I have found the answer in their website. There are 2 types of DSA:

DSA (Academic) for Year 1 IP 2013

DSA (Sports) for Year 1 2013

As for DSA (Academic) for Year 1 IP 2013, the following are the criteria:

St Joseph's Institution welcomes current P6 students with consistent excellent academic results for direct school admission, DSA (Academic - Year 1) into SJI Integrated Programme (IP) Year 1.

Applicants should also display outstanding leadership qualities, talents and character.

                        Eligibility Criterion:

                        - Outstanding overall academic performance in primary school;
                        - Outstanding engagement and achievement in one or more areas of talent: academics (e.g. Math Olympiad), sports, arts, leadership and service;
                        - Quality of mind, as well as personal and relational characteristics.[/qPuote]
                        ------------
                        ------------

THERE IS ONE MORE, FOR DSA by CCA .

E..g By Performing Arts: choir, band, string ensemble, etc

Let your DS/DD watch their performance and see whether they like it.
Currently Dunman High has one on Apr.
If interested, I have some for String Ensemble.
Your DS/DD will spent quite some time in sec Sch on CCA.
It's always good to compare before you decide which school.
Dunman High performing Art really has standard.
On hand I have String Ensemble tickets at $10 on sat 14 April 2012
evening, , PM me if interested other CCA also have( for performing arts only)
The performing art centre has standard too.
