Don't :heresmyfish: me... I like the current system of deciding after the PSLE. I believe that deciding on a secondary school is a joint decision between parents and children. A child's \" dream\" school could be influenced greatly by peer pressure and brand name, where as the parent choice could be based on other factors, including proximity. In the end, a discussion needs to be held and a joint decision be made. I would prefer that this is done after the PSLE, so that it won't disrupt PSLE preparation / revision....which might be MOE's intent.

No one will :heresmyfish: you, everyone is entitled to own comments here so long as not offensive...

VS IP is only asking the current CO holders to decide whether to accept... Ok lah, to say it more directly, basically some of these COs they are offering could be to certain group of kids who obviously will get multiple COs  I won't get clearer than that. On one hand, they want these cream kids yet on the other hand these kids have high chance of multiple COs... So i think they use acceptance way to sieve out which of these kids are 'collector of COs' and which ones are seriously considering them. We are not sure how they will tie in this acceptance with option exercise after PSLE as this is first year this is practiced. We have yet to understand more details about its whole process but I support VS IP's direction to curb hogging of multiple COs for those who are obviously interested in Sch A and Sch B only but yet hang on to VS IP CO....by giving up the COs by 24 Aug, they are not only giving chance to current WL boys, but may even also to more of your DSs who would have otherwise fallen outside the WL listing. For those DS who view VS IP as their only dream school, this move is in right direction... Well at least makes sense to me.... πŸ˜„

Provided results from their other dreams schools are released by 24 Aug too otherwise some may still be waiting for that other dream school and have a buffer CO from VS to fall back on \" in case \" the CO from that other dream school does not fall through.

I say the most effective way is a concerted effort by all DSA schools to announce results together and demand acceptance by the same date and this date has to be before the closing date for the DSA exercise.

VS IP is taking lead for change this round...surely initial 1-2 years of any new change will have teething issues to sort out. But yes, your suggestion is good about concerted efforts. Give it some time - cutting down too many multiple COs per kid is surely for the good of our kids in the long run.... When VS IP receives the rejection from a multiple-CO kid at this stage, its CO will not appear as another collector's item in the post PSLE option exercise form of the multiple-CO kid.. πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„ - right? :scratchhead:

And, yes, we hope the other 'dream' schs are aware of this development and if so, surely some will try to rush out some calls and emails by 24 Aug, especially its most direct IP competitor DHS... πŸ˜‰

How will NYGH announce the results? By Mr Postman, email, sms or phone?

飞鸽传书 (by pigeon mail) :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Even trained pigeons take less than 8 hours to fly from west to east of singapore, including stops to poo and pee.

                Snow Crystal:

Other secondary schools have been asking kids with COs to step forward and reject if they are not keen in their school. But :slapshead: very few have done so..can you imagine some kids are hanging on to 3 or 4 COs? I am sure some may even heard of more :yikes: Some one posted that the parents will say undecided or not sure if can cope in the dream school etc etc... But another boy who is genuinely interested in a particular secondary school but ranked just outside its WL list has been denied a DSA chance  Also most of the time, the kids are only deciding between Sch A vs Sch B

There is much fine-tuning needed in DSA process.... πŸ˜‰
Snow Crystal, are you referring to me?? πŸ˜‰
DS has applied for 2 schools. Reason is because he couldn't decide on one & he likes both for different reasons. So in his case, there's no particular dream school. Beside, he feels that there's no guarantee to just apply for one. Initially, he plan to apply for 3 but I stop him cos I know he's not really keen on it.

My take is, parents should advise the kids to apply only for schools they're interested in. I agree with you that many times, the choices are between 2 schools only. If the kid hold more than 2, maybe they should consider to give up the others as soon as possible so as to reduce the anxiety of those children (or should I say parents) under waiting list. I realise that the parents are the more Kan Cheong ones. The kids seem to be able to take it better.

I am just citing what I recall in KSP forum for some reasons parents give for hogging so many COs. Yes, most are only deciding between 2 schools  then please release Sch C,D,E for others asap if not interested. I rem last year some parents wrote that they actually inform the non-dream school rejection of their COs almost immediately - we salute such acts :salute:

I do see the benefits of applying for two. I sometimes wish DD had applied for two... but she has only one dream school.

Now I cannot wait for next week. Hope we know by 31 Aug! :nailbite:

If your dd has only one dream school it's good that she applied only to one. Less headaches than if she was offered a CO by her 2nd choice school and then wonder if she should accept it in case she does well enough at PSLE to enter her dream school right?
