Do you know how to prepare a portfolio book? I am thinking to stuff all the certificates and school reports in one clear-fold. Don't know whether it is right way?
No right or wrong way.
At least one school even instructed the kids to just staple and submit...donch need folder. -

here is the very kiasu way of the portfolio
compile all the academic records and summarise them on a cover page in one section
compile all the academic competitions awards in one section and summarise them with a cover page
compile all the CCA awards / certs in one section with a cover page, those without certs but with trophies - take photos of the trophies and include them
also include teachers' recommendation, testimonial, photos of project / artwork where applicable,
include any international / cip awards etc
print out the online DSA submission and put on top
organise the compilation with section dividers and a content page
select a nice cover and sent for binding into a book and hand deliver to the school
yes, very kiasu hor.... :siam: -

I LIKE!
Thought it sounds tedious and very KS, it makes a huge difference when we receive such portfolios.
I know of students who make multiple copies (for artwork, they take a picture and do a write up with it on A4 paper for easy filing).
Do get you kid involved in the preparation too. Gives them a sense of achievement and experience on being organised and presentable.

hi jtoh, was your friend's dd applying for Dance / Visual Arts? =)[/quote]Dance.
No need. In fact my friend's dd who did it pretty pretty was shocked to realize that SOTA just tore it apart and kept the relevant portions.jtoh:

Actually the instructions (below) were given on the SOTA website regarding submission of documents for Dance / Music students:
Optional Documents:
Photocopies of any other achievements and awards, where relevant.
All supporting documents to be clipped or stapled together.
Please do not bind documents or submit them in files/folders.
* Please note that all supporting documents submitted to SOTA will not be returned to applicants. The Talent Academy registration fee and Entrance Exam Fee are non-refundable
so i can't help feeling that funx3's remark was rather uncalled for.. -
Apology.
My bad β¦ -

I agree that the applicants should read what is required by the schools and submit accordingly. It doesn't always help to add many photos, bulky portolios, bound copies with fancy decorations etc when all the school asks for are documents. I have friends whose children applied through various domains to different schools, some with just plain paper and information listed, supported by certificates, others with fancy fully done-up portfolios professionally bound together laden with photos and glitter. Trust me, it's your qualifications and certificates that count. Not all the 'noisy prettiness' you're trying to impress the panel with because you don't have enough qualifications. -
Oh? So diff schools expect diff kinds of portfolios (done up kind vs plain info stapled together)β¦ Quite a revelation to me for some reason!
Thanks everyone for the info! -

agree.. and imo it doesn't leave a good impression if the student couldn't / wouldn't follow the instructions given by the school.
