        Snow Crystal:
        maggieloh:

        Dear parents,

please help with your feedback as I have been worry over this since a few days back.
My child has a confirmed offer from NY Girl School and a Provisional Offer from Raffles. The Raffles one she must obtained at least 235. She is Sports DSA.
She likes Raffles very much but I very worry that she cannot get 235 - then how if she can't get in ?
I tell her to go for NY Girls School but she not keen.
        What do you think ?

This is entirely my own opinion.
You said you are worried if your daughter will hit 235 for PSLE and her average is 70%.
If your daughter really gets around 235 in PSLE, she will definitely find it daunting to cope in RGS. RGS min COP is around 26x, so your daughter's score of around 235 is way way below. If she's so adamant, she has to work real hard in RGS if she gets in. Also, her CCA demands will at at least 3x a week plus perhaps outside coaching. RGS IP is 6 years with no O level class. If your daughter is 25x standard I will advise you to take the RGS CO but if 23x,hmmm?.. Please think thrice.

On the other hand, the lowest cut off score in NYGH is around 247+3 (NYPS affiliated), which is slightly nearer to your daughter's around 235 score assuming that she's that standard and that you aren't just being humble. Still, quite many marks off. Must work hard too. Please think twice.

All in all, IP is a 6 years journey. Your daughter must be outstanding in her CCA to get two offers from the IPs. But put her ability to cope before the brand of the IP.... sorry if I am being frank   My personal personal opinion only...don't :spank: :heresmyfish:

        Hi Maggieloh,

I understand the dilemma you are having. As parents, we always want the best for our children. However, there are times that we ourselves are not sure whether we make the right decision for our DCs. I agree with SnowCrystal's view but that is from parent's point of view. From your DD's point of view, her dream school is RGS. Will she blame  you in future in case her PSLE marks can go to RGS? Maybe you can have a discussion with your DD and let her know of the consequences if she did not meet the RGS's requirement, and let her decide for herself whether she wants to take up the challenge. With her passion for RGS, she has a target to achieve. I'm sure she will work very hard towards her target. As whether she is able to cope in RGS, no one can predict as I believe that everyone is capable if they are strongly motivated by what they want. This is just my personal view and it is not an easy decision to make. :?

It is something new! If rgs id her dream school :xedfingers: , then tell you SF to work hard. It is not difficult to get 235.
Cannot anyhow say 235 is not difficult to get, leh. It's not exactly easy either. One of my kids got below that! Thankfully his DSA doesn't have this condition.

I confirm twice with Raffles. They said no confirm offer , it's provisional offer with conditions. It's at least 235 , can be higher if their COP is higher.

She normally gets 70s in school. Is that safe to get 235.

My hubby and I like NY Girls school, dunno what's wrong with this girl.

Average 70 percent probaby can. My older son had that average (due to poor CL that push his average down). He ended up with High 240s for PSLE.

Now we heard that a girl from my girl’s sports from another school only got WL from NY Girls school. Actually , that day when the teacher called me last week, she just said offer. Never said WL or CO. I also dunno not sure what is WL until i see this forum.

Dear parents, what does it mean for my girl if it turned out to be WL from NY Girls School and provisional CO from Raffles…

              Headache !

                Hi,

I am newbie here.Need some advice here.
My kids is confirmed by VS and we has reply the acceptance on 24 Aug as the letter stated.Currently we still waiting for the reply from DHS and we called in they say the DSA result only out in Sept.I told them regarding the VS offer and they say there will be another submission for the prefer school in Oct.
May I know is it true cause my kids is keen to go to DHS but we also dun want to miss the opportuntity offer by VS.you know incase DHS reject.
Sorry this is the first time we go thru DSA program.
At the same time compare VS and DHS which will be a better choice as my kids are stronger in Endlish than MT
                Thanks
Anyone can help to advise on this.
We are worry if DHS offer the place then we have accwpted VS then it caanot be changed.
                Thanks 😓 😓 😓
My view is MOE should seriously review the whole process. Set a timeline that all school must release the result on tmr same day, a week to consider and submission within the date. WL be notify with the next wk and this will release the unnecessary stress for all the parents. :celebrate: the current process is not balance.

My suggestion is to drop both NYGHS and RGS and opt for S1 posting with the intention to appear. Let me explain why.

IP is a seamless prog which leads to A-levels. Your dd needs to score at least decently to enter our unis, she needs to obtain 3H2 passes even as a senior member of the national team in her sport under discretionary application. Her current standard is 25-30 pts behind the mean of the above schools which is way too much. Remember, there’s no 0- levels, so it will place her at precarious situation without any alternative. Poor performance vis-a-vis her school mates may result in low morale which undermines performance both in academics and sport. Always bear in mind that the school allows her to don their uniform and she will need to represent her school. The pedagogical methods of the above schools in my opinion is unsuitable for her given her current academic standard. She needs to be somewhere around the mid 80s to be able to cope.

My recommendation is that she places either MGS and SCGS as 1st and 2nd choices depending one which one she fancies. Given her sport achievement, she can always appear to both schools after the S1 posting if necessary. Both offer dual track IB/A-levels and is more ideal apart from more choices. You can than monitor her progress and decide which option suits her best IB/A-Levels/Poly.

She is choosing a sec school not uni so brand name should not matter much.

                    DS and DH,

I guess its the top secondary school and the one that is going to shift near to the top secondary school temporarily ?

                    You are good 😄

Ah.. I have a pretty good idea of which school is shifting temporarily to a place near the top secondary school. 😄

                    Thanks for sharing. 😄

                      Hi Yarna,

Anyway your DS got 3 offers already. Well done! Congrats !
Thanks, Spider2012. Whatever it is, we are thankful for all that came our way.

We did not sign on VS offer. Hope you will get some good news from VS soon. Please do share with us the outcome. My friend's son with an average of 85% got a CO from VS. Hope that it can give you some perspective, DS may not be too far down the list. Are you attending the VS briefing on Thursday? Perhaps it would be a good time to clarify with them. All the best.

                        I agreed what you suggest.
As you can see we are lost now. What are the whole process of DSA.
Understand from the MOE web if I am not wrong ,confirmation of the school selection should be during the prefer letter given by indivdual current primary school. But now VS give a offer acceptance letter to reply by Aug 24 and what does it mean.Do we still able to change. :? :?
Anyone having the same situation and can help to advise
