Hi there, is anyone applying to Singapore Chinese Girl's School or Cedar Girl's School or River Valley High School?

Is there anyone of you who have applied to these schools via DSA? I would like to know more.
You see, I have 1 leadership role, have won an award in a science competition, got plenty of \"participation\"s for maths olympiad.... Do I stand a chance?

Just to manage your expectation…… what are listed here are very common, most kids from any good classes will have what you have or even better!…. if for DSA academic …you need to have much much better awards. your school results also must be consistently above 95% for all subjects…..from P4-6 onwards

Actually, it is easier to get into a dream school through PSLE S1 posting than DSA. DSA is really difficult and can be a waste of time for the child because there are so many tests, interviews etc. Unless there is a very good chance in sports (medalist), aesthetics or academics (GEP or top prize winners), then it might be better to spend time on PSLE.

However, some schools do DSA exclusively, for those, I'd say go for DSA nevertheless, the yardstick will perhaps be different.

Hi, suggest you call the school to find out what core areas they are looking for. Not sure if these are areas they are looking for. For example, for CCA, SCGS will be looking for dance, swimming, badminton, choir, etc etc. Ask them specifically. I am not sure what Cedar and RV are looking for, you can either check their website or ask them directly.

Can't really tell if you have a good chance, hate to tell you this, but the credentials you presented doesn't sound very convincing to me for DSA for academic, but who knows, you might just get lucky.

        All the best!

Feel free to be frank and critical. 🙂
But my results are quite consistent... like about 80-90%?
My CCA is ICT, and I am the vice-chair of ICT.
Thank you, I wish you a prosperous new year ahead!

Oh. But the interview counts alot too![/quote]Agreed, but you have to be in their radar before you get even an interview. DD2 was the #1 in her sport in Singapore that year. She was invited to the interview. Didn't make it because the school changed direction all of a sudden and didn't even take 1 single person from that CCA that year (they took 4 the previous year, 4 the previous previous year, and 4 the year after and her year is a good year for this CCA). And, the school is #1 for this CCA in Singapore. No explanation was given, just apologies after apologies from the CCA teacher, because she was the one who almost guaranteed me a place, and wooed my daughter to apply.

That's why I think DSA is very dicey and things change without a need for the school to explain. And she only applied to one school for DSA. The S1 posting did much more justice. It is a very time consuming process, and demoralizing when things like these happen.

2ppaamm, u r rite! Firstly, b4 the interview, ones must be good enough to be invited for interview … not the cart b4 e horse !…..

Best is to study hard, get high T-score of 265 or more, then u r the one calling the shot, u choose the school & not the school choose u! :imcool:

                Hi,

My DD is above average in her school, has a sliver in NMOS…we were not keen to take up DSA except for NUSH since the chances for mainstream students are quite slim. But now not sure if it’s a waste not to try out? Thinking of trying out RGS under Maths domain…should be no harm cos first round is GAT and if she does not get through, at least we said we’ve tried…what do you guys think?

you sound half hearted ? NMOS Silver is not a good indicator. Math domain in RI and RGS is extremely tough, not even HCI's SMOPS top 20 platinum has any chance.

Ya, exactly. Just felt that perhaps should focus on PSLE instead then to try out for the DSA and be dissappointed. Did not want to DSA for other schools since my DD has set her eyes on RGS or NUSH.

Well, will have a think about it…

please don't DSA for the school with the idea of a back up but has no serious intention of ever attending the school

also no need to DSA for school that can use PSLE result to walk in

RGS sport dsa process was tedious: from the 500 words statement of achievements -> GAT -> Sports trial -> interview by a panel of interviewers ->informal interview on parents for their commitment n support by teacher in charge.

                        it was surely stressful. 😓

but if your child has something outstanding to offer, can give it a shot! :xedfingers: . otherwise you may feel sayang, but pls manage your child's time efficiently
