Hi parents,

This MOE website is very informative for parents who are interested to know how to exercise option/prioritise if DC given WL and CO. (See FAQ no. 26)

SNGS will hv around 190 places for its IP programme and about the same number of places for its O level programme . So since they hv offered only less than 30 places out of 190 available places through the DSA exercise, looking on the bright side, those who did not get the COs have quite a high chance of filling up the remaining 160 or so places in the IP programme ....so Jia you to all our DDs!

Am I correct to say that with more places available at S1 posting stage, we can expect a lower COP?

I don't think so, the COP for the IP would still be 250
Out of 190, I'm wondering how many will be reserved for their affiliated pupils for S1 posting based on PSLE result? If there is no quota, then there might not be many places left for the non-affiliated pupils.

            Congrats Ireney ๐Ÿ™‚

So I guess you can now happily exclude yourself from the SST-DSA parents list too ๐Ÿ™‚

Did you get the NJC CO via email? What domain did you DS apply under?

My DD told me that she want to go Cedar girls but she had a place in SCGS which she do not wish to drop it too. She said that she will accept SCGS but if PSLE result turn out to be good, she will want to move to Cedar. She said she attend one week SCGS and ask for transfer to Cedar. Can she do in this way? Will SCGS allow?
But Cedar and SCGS, which one is better?
Hi Shalom,
Please see FAQ 41 and 42 regarding DD going to SCGS for 1 week and then transfer to Cedar.
                http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/dsa-sec/faqs/#withdraw-application

                Cedar vs SCGS:
(without considering distance, school fees, uniform, infrastructure, location i.e. town or suburb)
My view is, it depends on DD's personality and what domain she DSA. If DSA via dance, SCGS is strong in dance. If DSA via sport, Cedar is strong in Track & Field. If DSA via academic, Cedar is proud to announce their success stories and 90 or 99% of O-levels enter JC (this was said during open house). Also, if DD is going to do MEP, I was told that Cedar has collaboration with TKGS for MEP. My feel is Cedar focus more on Sc & Technology (I may be wrong) since they are somehow affiliated with SUTD. Cedar also gives me the feel that it is like MGS of the east and more well known for their academic achievement as compared to SCGS (I may be wrong). These are just my views...so KSP pls don't :spank: me. Each of them has its own branding and it depends on what DD wants and what type of enviroment you want DD to grow up in.

I guess schools like SNGS, CHS & SCGS are still bound by the rule of 10% of their maximum vacancy level then. Which in this case is 30. So this \"rule\" has not been allowed to be relaxed by MOE even with introduction of IP. These 3 schools have to abide by this ruling bc they are not independent schools, unlike RI, etc. Oh well. No wonder CHS for eg. Only opened DSA for sports & IP and closed up all the previous DSA domains (via other CCA). Bc they cannot offer that many places. All along 30 places for DSA, now STILL 30 places.

phttph ----> for IP DSA, they don't look to see whether from affiliated. Whoever is worthy is the key. They don't *reserve* for affiliated at all during DSA.

If I'm not mistaken, IP schools can now offer DSA up to 50% of their intake.

If it is indeed correct that SNGS DSA 30 or so places, then would it not have been a waste of resources for the school and parents?

It would be reasonable to assume that most if not all of the 30 successful students would have also DSA other schools in similar tier (e.g. NJC, SCGS, Ceda, MGS, etc) or better ones (e.g. RGS and NYGH). Some of the successful ones may choose SNGS and some may not; surely those who have CO or WL from RGS and NYGS would reasonably not. Some would have also CO from other similar tier schools and decide to not choose SNGS, let's say 50-50. Thus, that would leave a small percentage of the 30 successful students eventually taking up the offer. So the school has expended much effort to recruit 8 or 10 or 12 students through DSA (12 out of a cohort of 180 IP, ~7%).

As a parent, if it was made known that there would only be 30 places, instead of the \"up to 50%, i.e. 90 or so\" places, then surely it would have made a significant impact on the decision to DSA SNGS; precious time, effort and hope could have been better spent.

Perhaps it was a test-run for SNGS management? :?
