It is good that he is motivated to do his best in PSLE to get into ACSI. All the best to your DS in PSLE.My DS didn't apply for ACSI Dsa as my dh and I have not thought of it. After listening to DS teacher recommendation, we specially went to the campus and DS checked the sch web himself . I think my ds like the school so much. And the sch now becomes his motivation of his studies now. I concern his moral, deportment and behavior development in his coming years in the sec sch.
Btw, we only applied for rv Dsa and no sound so far. Sigh!

My daughter said that today's interview was really hard. They had only 1.5 min to present their personal character information such as: What's ur strengths and weaknesses, the CIP you did, and how you are going to cope with the stress in the coming PSLE, speaking in chinese. Then they will have a debate and a group discussion and you need to present it. ><
My daughter said that the interviewers had to interrupt this China girl during the self intro because she spoke too fast/much. -

You can read about the program in their school website. Recently, it was reportrd in the papers that they won some art-science competition. I think you can also read it in the website.Hi does anyone have any information on SJI Ip

Understand your concern but really, if u and your son like the program and the school environment feels good, go ahead with it.Most of all, being amongst the rich would mean DS has to be very strong in his character, must be able to withstand the temptation, possible taunting (intentional/unintentional) from his peers etc. He will need to learn and I will need to manage his 'why others have, I can't :stompfeet:
To begin with, every sch (esp independent schools), have rich kids. It doesnt mean that rich kids would flaunt their wealth in schools.
It is a misconception that ACSI is flooded with such boys. The truth is that 10% of the boys are on Financial Assistance Scheme. My son goes to ACSI and he is in sec 3 IP now. He was from a neighbourhood primary school and we stay in HDB flat. Never once, did i hear him complain about his friend (may it be politician's or president's grandson, CEO's son...blabla) appearing proud or felt pressured to own a certain expensive gadget becos his friends have it.
His schoolmates are also very happy coming to my HDB home for stayovers and work on projects, etc. None of them appeared snobbish.
As for donations, it is on a volunteer basis. Once after chinese new year (the money collected will use to fund needy schoolmates for yearly overseas trip starting in secondary 2), the other sometime midyr.
Happy deciding! :)))) -

If I'm not mistaken, IP schools can now offer DSA up to 50% of their intake.jtoh:

I guess schools like SNGS, CHS & SCGS are still bound by the rule of 10% of their maximum vacancy level then. Which in this case is 30. So this \"rule\" has not been allowed to be relaxed by MOE even with introduction of IP. These 3 schools have to abide by this ruling bc they are not independent schools, unlike RI, etc. Oh well. No wonder CHS for eg. Only opened DSA for sports & IP and closed up all the previous DSA domains (via other CCA). Bc they cannot offer that many places. All along 30 places for DSA, now STILL 30 places.
phttph ----> for IP DSA, they don't look to see whether from affiliated. Whoever is worthy is the key. They don't *reserve* for affiliated at all during DSA.
If it is indeed correct that SNGS DSA 30 or so places, then would it not have been a waste of resources for the school and parents?
It would be reasonable to assume that most if not all of the 30 successful students would have also DSA other schools in similar tier (e.g. NJC, SCGS, Ceda, MGS, etc) or better ones (e.g. RGS and NYGH). Some of the successful ones may choose SNGS and some may not; surely those who have CO or WL from RGS and NYGS would reasonably not. Some would have also CO from other similar tier schools and decide to not choose SNGS, let's say 50-50. Thus, that would leave a small percentage of the 30 successful students eventually taking up the offer. So the school has expended much effort to recruit 8 or 10 or 12 students through DSA (12 out of a cohort of 180 IP, ~7%).
As a parent, if it was made known that there would only be 30 places, instead of the \"up to 50%, i.e. 90 or so\" places, then surely it would have made a significant impact on the decision to DSA SNGS; precious time, effort and hope could have been better spent.
Perhaps it was a test-run for SNGS management? :?[/quote]
I couldn't agree more with you !!
