          Hi Alwaysworried,

I think it's good if you can take a look on the below from NUSHS website regarding their NUSHS Diploma.

This is taken from their school website.
          http://www.highsch.nus.edu.sg/content.p ... b525ffdc56

          1. What is the graduation qualification when a student graduates from NUS High School and is it recognized by universities worldwide?
The NUS High School Diploma will be the school's graduation qualification. Currently, the Diploma is recognised as an admissible qualification by National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of Warwick, Kingโ€™s College London, University College London, Yale University, Stanford University, Massachusett Institute of Technology, Cornell University , Dordt College, Lewis-Clark State College, Sweet Briar College, Virginia Military Institute, Washington University St Louis, Wilson College, Edith Cowan University, La Trobe University, Murdoch University, University at Buffalo (State University of New York), University of Georgia, Oklahoma Wesleyan University, University of Maryland. The list will continue as we seek recognition from the top-tier universities in the Australia.

          Hi dagong99,
Thanks for info. Heard that SJI have a holistic educ curriculum which is better than NUSH, not sure if that is true and that social skills plus confidence is critical for our DKs in the future. Seems that most people have impression that NUSH produce kids thot are just academically inclined but lacking in the people skills.

          What do you think? Thanks.

          Hi Alwaysworried,

I would not think so as most schools nowsadays place a very high emphasis on a holistic education for students, even in primary schools.

What I think NUSHS is different from other IP schools is that it places more emphasis on Math & Science. It will be good if the students have a min standard in these 2 subjects, otherwise, they may struggle with the pace they are going with the syllabus. Other than that, I don't think there is any major difference from other IP schools. There are students who major in Arts, Humanities & even music, besides the core Math & Science subjects.

As for social skills, there is a full year boarding programme in Year 5 whereby it is compulsory for the students to particpate and this definitely provides an excellent opportunity for the students to learn to be independent, how to manage their time, participate in their hall activities, learn to live harmoniously with their fellow classmates from all walks of life (there are quite a no of foreign students from various countries). I would say the school functions more or less like NUS, even their syllabus are in modules. So I think there are plenty of room for the students enhance their social skills, not to worry. ๐Ÿ˜„

Agree. That's why no complaints. . And from the look, there are many like me too. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Those who were unsuccessful, dun despair. When your child's PSLE results are out, you will also be pondering over which Sch to select, just like us ๐Ÿ™‚
                Cheers.

                    Firstly, my congratulations to you!

All the three schools are really good and on surface, it looks a tough choice indeed. However, if you will to analyse deeply, the decision making becomes less complicated.

Next, understand your dsโ€™ strengths and weaknesses, his aspirations follow by a detailed understanding of individual schoolโ€™s academic prog, culture, ccas, guess distance is not an issue for you from the way you selected the schools. Following is my imput:

NUSH- Graduation Cert NUS diploma: Highly recommended if your ds is a natural science student hoping to be at the frontier of science research and discovery when he grows up. Paremeters include: maths score above 97 without tuition and science score above 92 without tuition.

ACSI- Graduation Cert: IB Diploma: The diploma is highly recognised overseas apart from local unis. This programme is best suited for students who are good in general academics with particular interest and strengths in the study of humanities. I must stress that it doesnโ€™t mean their sciences are ordinary. For example in the study of HL Maths which is equivalent to H2 Maths, it covers a tropic which is only studied at H3 level. Unlike the A-levels which diffentiate btw H2 and H1 marks, here in IB, thereโ€™s no diffence btw HL and SL. Invariably, a student is expected to be an all rounder.

RVH- Frankly, this school amazes me by virtue of their ability to produce very good sets of A-levels results in a relatively short period of time. This school is highly recommended if your ds is unable to decide whether the other two programmes suit him or he is still unsure whether he is stronger in science or humanities.

In any of these three, encourage him to excel in his cca and strive for leadership positions.

I think you are now in an exceedingly contnded situation!
