Finally went to RI and gave the application. Ya they also asked whether I go overseas . I saw them put in the checklist paper \"NA\" after I told no.


They also told me not to worry if they cannot reach us via ph, they will still email.

now need to concentrate for ACS (I) preparation.

erm…im doubting whether to DSA now…
cuz ive no CCA avail/musical talents to DSA with so only academics can

I am in mainstream,so called in the ‘1st class’ in the school.My CCA is E2K and NYGH is not accepting that cca,but i have not asked RGS about it.My score for SA this time was 339.3/400 but i can say that not a lot of people has gotten 360/370 kinda thing.I might DSA using academics but for New South Wales math and eng p4 and 5,i got credit.For science,i only got distinction for both P4 & 5.For CCA,i participated in a virtual competition and came in 1st nationally and 3rd internationally.I used to be in Chinese Orchestra and Athletics and quit for certain reasons.My CO instruments is YangQin and i got all Merit for Grades 2,4 & 5.I have taken ballet exams from pre-syllabus(for this ballet exam) to grade 5.From grade 1 to 4,i have got all distinction but a kind of high Merit for grade 5.That’s about it.
So I would like to ask,in this case,what are my chances if i DSA for NYGH and RGS.

Please help and reply ASAP.

hi, Stressygirl, I don’t know what will be your chance, in fact, I don’t think anyone know. Why not just try for both schools, you will have to go through GAT, interviews, so on, I am sure you will gain valuable experience from the process. Most importantly, Make use of this June Holiday, focus on your study!

Hi stressygirl,

To be honest, your UNSW grades for English and Math aren't good. To stand out from the hundreds applying, a High Distinction or maybe a Distinction would stand you in better stead, not to mention strong awards in Math Olympiads, Commonwealth Writing Competitions, Debates etc.

E2K is not considered a CCA for DSA at RGS. You can possibly mention it in your application and your placings to boost your portfolio.

Your yangqin and ballet grades are of no consequence unless you intend to DSA through music and dance.

Based on the info you've given, your chances of success aren't high. But you may be doing well academically in school and for all you know, you might do well in the GAT and interview.

Hi Stressygirl,
I have to agree with Jtoh that your chances doesn't seem high. I hope your reason for DSA-ing is not due to peer pressure. Not jumping on the bandwagon can be stressful. This may also be a distraction from your PSLE preparation. If you know you can take the added stress of DSA and not get distracted by the outcome, then perhaps go for it. It also seems like a lot of people are limiting their choice to these schools. Ignore this old aunty if this is not true - don't follow the crowd. Know your own strength and weakness.

Hi,my DD is an EXCO Prefect in school…but it is not stated in nygh’s leadership column so we don’t know which one to tick cos she is on the same ‘level’ with the head prefects or so they say on their school book.She didn’t do quite well this SA,scored about 320+ she does not have any CCA’s in school but she took Ballet exam from pre-primary to Grade 5 RAD she has distinctions from Grade 1-4 and for Grade 5,she missed distinction by a mark.She also took Piano exams but it wasn’t very well done.Grade 1 Theory was distinction and for Grade 2-3 practical she had a merit.She has taken part in some English composition competition in Pri 5 but did not receive any thing.She did receive some handwriting awards but i don’t think that helps.She is in mainstream and is about 3rd in class cos their class didn’t do too well for SA too.i would lyk to know her chance into getting into nygh or rgs.tks!!:)

Yep.I agree that my unsw results are quite poor.And i thought that my music and dance is just a boost.
So if i actually can do well for GAT and somehow manage to give a good impression at the interview,i can get into the school?
