Anyone with a view or opinion why these are happening?

      I mean :-

      1) teachers leaving the profession to become tutors,

      2) the number of tuition centers?

      3) the number of full time students having tuitions for more than one or two subjects ?

I have my views, but would like to get more views, thank you …

workload of a teacher is incomparable to a tutor thus to have a more flexible lifestyle and more time for family or self, they will choose the latter.

Tuition centers are just riding the wave set famous by their predecessors so that explains the increasing numbers around neighborhood areas.

Parents' expectations of their own child play an important role in your last point. It explains itself 😉

Teachers are not bad. Some work for salary for some it ll be a passion …

Teachers are second mother of a child. Its not only a job but its also a social service.

Being a teacher is not easy. Passion alone cannot remove their frustration in the school system. There are lots of bullying in schools.

I know someone who was a lecturer, popular with students and won 3 project awards in a single year. Yet he was "marked" for under performing and given a poor appraisal grade. He was given 3 years contract and then renew … and renew again… So he had to leave.

When he left, the school wanted to employ him as a project consultant because there was no one to do school project now! what a joke!

It is the same happening in other schools. Willing lecturers received more work while the course managers only "cut ribbons". It is the system forcing these passionate teachers out.

So yes…now this ex-lecturer is a full time tutor and now earn double his pay…

Being a teacher is not easy, juggling with the workload and challenges faced in school. Passion is rather important for a teacher as many felt not justifiable for their income and workload and in the end teachers who are not motivated , leads to poor performance that does not meet up to the parent expectations.

I do think the good teachers should be appreciated.

Good teachers…as in committed and dedicated ones should be given due recognition. Parents can do so by informing the principals of their children’s schools. Such recognition will give teachers encouragement and motivation to continue their passion.

Yes, I have the same feeling with you. If you meet the irresponsible teacher unfortunately, you can change a teacher or a school for your kids.

I worry about the teachers my kids get every year.

Fortunately, my daughter’s FT taught her very well for 2 years.
For those who look down on their students bcos they are not in top or mid range classes, I really wish we parents can do something.

How can a teacher look down on weaker students? They are the ones that need the most help, support and encouragement!
