H1 maths and H2 maths
-
Does anyone know the difference between H1 maths and H2 maths? Is it only the topics taught are different? How does it affect the admission to university?
-
H2 math is harder, involve more topics compared to H1. H2 math will provide you with a more solid foundation eventually if one enters universities. In science, IT or engr courses, those without H2 math might be required to take bridging courses in mathematics.

H1 and H2 have the same depth but H2 has wider breadth than H1. This means that in terms of difficulty H1 is equivalent to H2, but there are more topics covered in H2 than in H1.
Quoted from MOE website:
An H1 subject is equivalent to half of an H2 subject in terms of curriculum time. However, the intellectual difficulty and rigour of an H1 subject is comparable with the H2 subject. -

Most uni will take H2 into consideration but not really H1. -
H1 maths is really much simpler than H2 maths. Acutally, if a child is weak in maths and strong in arts subjects, taking a H1 math would make it very easy to get an A. H2 maths is much tougher than H1 Maths but itβs easier to get A compared to other more general and less specific subjects like arts.

For me, i find doing past year H1 maths papers from other schools a good way to get an A. You can start with the June common tests papers from other schools. I didn't really have much time to do assessment books. TYS perhaps? Good tuition helps. -
