        Hi,are these answers correct?

1.Leaf of money plant - round?
        Flowers grow in clusters?
        2.Leaf of sunflower - heart?
        3.Leaf of orchid - lance?
        4.Leaf of ixora - lance?

Is there a good website or good Science guidebook to find out all these shapes of leaves plus singly/clusters stuff?

        Thanks!

I saw in one of the assessment books - can’t remember which one

          ixora - oval shaped

orchid and grass - lance shaped

          Not sure about the rest.

Thank you very much for sharing and helping,HAPPYH and mother777.I find the topic about "Plants" to be quite dry,esp when the child must try to remember the leaves’ shapes, edges and flowers in clusters or singly. I dun see the purpose this serves. Sigh…

We are nurturing the future botanists 😆

The worst still is the names of the water plants, submerged, partially submerged and floating. The kids may not even know the names, then how can they derive the answer? My DD was doing an assessment book last night. The question asks her about mosquito fern - water or land plant? She doesn't even know mosquito fern (me too). Then googled to find the answer.

Another question is poisonous and non-poisonous.....

                    The list will go on.......

So, embryo do get their nutrients/food source from the egg yolk.

If so, then it is very misleading for PSLE Ultimate Science to state as what I quoted in the earlier post.
My child has clarified with his teacher today and was told that while she understands that some guidebooks state egg white as the food source, it should actually be egg yolk as the main function of egg white is to cushion shock.

                      Hi teh-oh

I remembered that egg white is a source of food for the embryo but not the PRIMARY source (which is the egg yolk). However, it is the primary source of water for the embryo. Egg white also contains anti-bodies to prevent the embryo from getting infected. But I wasn't sure and went googling. Got the following extracts from the net on egg white:

                      1. Albumen(egg white) serves as a water reservoir for the early embryo and a source of food for the later embryo; it also contains substances that retard the growth of bacteria....

                      2. Its primary purpose is to protect the egg yolk and also to provide additional nutrition for the growth of the embryo, as it is rich in proteins and is of high nutritional value.....

                      3. The egg white is a cradle for the growing embryo. If the egg gets bumped, or moved to suddenly, the soft white around the embryo comes between it and the shell and cushions the shock

                      4. The white of an egg. This watery substance supplies the growing embryo with food and water.

                      5. The egg white proteins differ markedly from the proteins of egg yolk in biological functions and structure. Egg white is almost pure solution of protein, almost all the proteins being active as enzymes, inhibitors and antibodies. It has the ability to form stable foams. Egg white proteins are easily denatured, and the foaming capacity is impaired as a result of heating, freezing and dehydration. Avidin an egg white protein prevents absorption of the vitamin Biotin. But avidin is inactivated by heat.

                      6. The egg white serves primarily as a water source for the embryo and is almost pure protein.

                      7. The white of the egg is made up of four layers of thick and thin albumen. This part of the egg contains primarily water, which protects the embryo. It also contains around 40 different types of protein to offer the embryo additional nourishment in the latter stages of incubation.

Problem with Pr Science is they don't cover each topic in detail.

                        Study the table below.

                        http://i41.tinypic.com/f5e21.jpg\">

Q1. What is the relationship between the number of eggs laid by an animal and the amount of care given to the eggs?

Q2 Why is there a need for the cod and the common tree frog to lay so many eggs?

                        :?: :?:
