Q&A - P3 Science

Yup.....sigh
If I were you, I will speak to the school science teacher or even the HOD, to sort out the 'key' to this answer. Strictly speaking, the 'die' is not even along the characteristics stated. I would ask, if I do not consider the thing as 'living', then how will it 'die'? If characteristic is what they are looking for, shouldn't they go along the 4? If they can accept the 'die', why cannot they accept the 'living'? As my girl has told her Science HOD - \"If you expect specific answer, ask specific question.\"IJJ:
Since scientifically 1 is right and this is science subject, so it should also get 2 marks, right?.....Sigh...I really don't understand current education anymore...
Did ans 2 get 2 marks? -

I absolutely agree. Both answers should be treated equally; if one is wrong, the other must be wrong too. Which is why I have much disagreement with how Primary science is being taught and tested in Primary schools. Is it science, or is it philosophy?
In any case, the first answer is \"more\" correct. The teddy bear is not a living thing, unlike the polar bear. Life and death is a dichotomy, you are either living or you are dead. The 2nd question begs the question of: what happens if the polar bear is still born, ie. it has never \"lived\"? So if it has never lived, how can it \"die\"? And if the teddy bear cannot die, does it mean it is living? -
ChiefKiasu:
Sometimes it has to do with the inflexibility of teachers who mark papers based on the standard answer sheet given. I would encourage students (or parents) to \"argue\" and \"fight\" for such marks. It may be 2 marks only, but if nothing is done, teachers may continue to have the inflexible mindset when it comes to marking.IJJ:

Birds fly away to look for shelter when it rains. This shows that birds
1. can move by themselves
2. respond to changes
Which is correct? I thought both are logical answers. Any comments? -

The more acceptable ans is \"2\". Cos rain is the change and birds are responding to the rain by flying away for shelter.Birds fly away to look for shelter when it rains. This shows that birds

Because of \"when it rains\", I am guessing the teacher is expecting answer 2 as the respond to get away from the rain would come first to activate the movement. But, of course, this does show both. This, again, is not quite a good question, in my opinion. What does this question trying to test on, I wonder, EL or Sci?Birds fly away to look for shelter when it rains. This shows that birds

My child said more suitable answer is 2 because key word is 'look for shelter when it rains'.
It looks straight forward here, but will be tricky if the question is set in those type like
(1) A and B
(2) A only
(3) B only -

Can I ask, if this is set in the open-ended question and they ask, \"Please state your reasons for choosing answer (2) - what will be the most accurate way to answer it? -

If the question is set like my example above, I will choose (1 - A&B). If the question is set like the one posted by Sexyviper, I will choose (2 - respond to changes). Then from there just try to get my child to write out something about the weather changes as the stimuli that results in the birds' response to fly away to seek shelter (and to add in 'ability to fly freely from place to place' if my answer includes 'can move by themselves).
Not an expert here, and just learning with you all.
