smartmummy,Hi All!
I have a doubt.
Is ceramics are man-made?
ceramics are made from clay. clay is natural. So how can we say ceramics are man-made.
Please help me.Thank you.
\"Clay is a naturally occurring substance. Shaping it and firing it to make the shape permanent is a human activity.\" So, if it involves the \"human-activity\" then it will be man-made than coming natural from the ground.
This my 2 cents worth of analysis; for reference and discussion purpose

if involve human activity, then there is hardly any natural material already ah.
my definition of man-made is like plastic, where the raw materials are not natural. but for cloths and paper and glass, the raw materials are natural, hence they are natural-occurring material.

personally, i donβt quite like that assessment book that i use. it is very brief so not value for money. but the brief notes comes in handy for quick checks such as these and they have quite good tabulation. accuracy-wise i am not sure cos i did not use it extensively. It is Casco green colour.
as for clay, i did a quick check. if you have EPH ultimate guide, the first concept map in that chapter state that clay is under natural. -

thanks for correcting me.
see, i told you i cannot recommend the green book. i found the discrepancy from my another more reliable PSLE guide .
this evil green book classify glass under Natural. then the Ultimate guide classify glass under Man-made. this other reliable PSLE guide state glass under man-made. so i go with this third guide.
stated there Ceramics are man-made.
sorry for the confusion earlier.
hope some experts can come in to explain. my ds1 not testing on Materials
