      phtthp:
On average : One year one Grade, since exam is held yearly, in April.

Since you're Sec 2 (aged 14), assuming that you start learning ballet this year, next year take RAD Grade 1 (G1) exam in April 2016, your timetable is

      15 year old : G1
      16 yo : G2
      17 yo : G3
      18 yo : G4
      19 yo : G5

      20 yo : G6
      21 yo : G7
      22 yo : G8

You may try learning, see how it goes along
I personally feel can skip lower grade. Eg. start from grade 3 since she is 14 yrs old.

let the ballet Tr assess her first, see what the Tr say, see which Grade she can start from

If dont have any foundation at all, start from scratch base 0, even start from Grade 3, can be difficult.

start ballet at aged 14, is different from start piano.
        Piano aged 14, still ok.

        Ballet :
because bones already hardened by the time she in Sec 2, can be painful.
My neighbour’s daughter started learning ballet at P3, cried because the bending, stretching was so painful. In the end, she gave up, bec can’t bear the pain

          Hi PHTTHP

You are right, I have seen Parents questioning the ballet teacher why their daughters cried in the class. They would put the blame on the teacher for giving their child a hard time.

On another note, what types of gradings are there? I know about the conventional grade 1 - grade 8, but what’s this about "intermediate foundation"? Do teachers usually teach the two syllabi simultaneously? Also, what’s the difference between the two?

            TIA

•The Graded syllabus (Pre-Primary in Dance, Primary in Dance and Grade 1 – 😎 provides a broad practical dance education and develops technical, musical and performance skills.
•Vocational Graded Examinations (Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1, Advanced 2) provide an in-depth study of ballet and prepare students for a career in dance.

Graded and Vocational Graded Examinations can be taken at the same time, or one at a time depending on individual ballet school and teachers, as well as the \"quality\" of the students 🙂

Can buy from Sinma or Chameleon outlets - however not every of their outlets carrying the same stocks so check with the outlet nearest to your home and see if they have it 🙂

There is a centre in City Square that does grading for ballet as well. The dance teachers have received very good reviews from parents. Stepping Out Studios

They also offer free trial classes.

Hi, any recommendation for ballet classes for 4-year-old in the east (Katong/Mountbatten area)?
