for normal class practice, do your ballet Tr insist that your daughter bun up her hair every lesson, or only on exam day then bun up ?
from which level start, got to wear ballet shoes with ribbon tied around it ? Is it from Grade 3 or 4, onwards ?
with ribbon tied around the ankle, look more elegant -

The girls wear ballet shoes with ribbon for their G3 exams. About 1 month before their Grade 3 exams, mummies are given the ribbon to sew on the ballet shoes so that the girls can have some time to get used to dancing with \"ballet shoes with ribbons\" before their examination.for normal class practice, do your ballet Tr insist that your daughter bun up her hair every lesson, or only on exam day then bun up ?

For hair bun, it is highly advisable though not compulsory for the girls to go for lessons with their hair bun. Tr strongly advised the girls to do that so that they can dance better (without the hair messed up, etc.) during the lesson. I think it really depends on how strict the ballet tr or school is. -

:yikes: I personally think the teacher should not do this as this is really a double edge effect. For girls who did not do well, this can either spur them to do better or to demoralise them totally. For girls who do well, this can either encourage them to continue to work hard or to be complacent that they are better in dancing than their peers.micollh:
usually when will we know the result?
Today (Sat, 23 May 2015) :
Tr released results of students' RAD ballet April 2015 (Pre-primary grade, Primary grade, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, all the way up to Intermediate / Advanced Grade) Exam results, hung up outside the ballet dance room.
Tr tabulated the results into an excel soreadsheet, print out onto A4 sized paper, then hang up outside the ballet room.
Results show the detailed breakdown of Total marks (upon 100), scored by each student for that particular grade, & whether student scored Merit / Distinction.
Hahaha ! We (parents/students) all know one another pupils' score, within our own level / grade, can see highest & lowest score in our level.
some did well !
saw some girls scored distinction, over 75 marks.
Majority scored Merit.
Tr only showed / announced students' exam results.
Actual RAD certificate : will collect in August
Ballet is not just about examinations and marks - sometimes a girl may get very nervous and not do well for the examinations. Anyway, my 2 cents thoughts. -

DD just got scolded by Tr yesterday with no hair bun even though she is at the level of Advanced Foundation :spank: . Agreed with Tr, it really looks messy when the girl is doing their turning…. -
Hi
Need to check with experienced mummies here with kids in grade 3 and above.
How can we help a child improve on her stretching exercises and split? Besides practicing the stretching at home everyday I mean? Could it be a case of "wrong technique used", I’m just wondering? Thanks. -
FantasyLandDreams:
Yes for my girl... she could not do split initially though she could do her heels stretch (i.e. lift 1 leg into a vertical position with the body). So it cant be a case of her inflexibility. Eventually, after seeing her \"failure\" during the open house, her daddy taught her the right technique (surprisingly I didn't know my other-half was a taekwondo black belt in his younger days - cant do split already but still know the technique). So it may indeed be a case of wrong technique if your DD is still flexible.Hi

Jialat, same problem here and I don’t know how to help her. Not good at bending forward exercise too whereby the fingers are supposed to touch the toes. This new teacher focus a lot on stretching and keep telling me she is very bad at stretching…

If your DD is still flexible, then not a big concern. She may then need to observe the right techniques. -
hi anyone can recommend a ballet school/ballet teacher for 3.5 year old who is shy yet eager to learn ?
my gal is interested in ballet and i signed her up for trial lesson at The Ballet & Music Company. However she doesn't follow the steps and only observe the class. And then when she reached home, she got her little bro to do all the warm up exercises and also dance with her.
If i were to enrol her for a full term, i am afraid she will take a while to warm up and i have to sit and dance with her in class.
Any suggestion?
