All About Ballet

Hi all!! need some advice..my girl is P1 this year, been learning ballet since ard 3yr old,at Ballet & music company at United Sq..Then switched to Attitude from ard 4yr old, so have been with Attitude ard 2yr..
Supposed to take CSTD Primary exam last Nov, but teacher was a bit sick & not able to conduct extra coaching class, thus exam was postponed to this year March(which me & some parents were not too happy, but we have no choice)..
I find that the progress at Attitude is rather slow, coz it took the school ard 2-2.5 yr,to prepare her class for Primary Exam..
Any parent has experience in this, & can comment/advise?
thus I am thinking of switching her to either SBA or Nafa, after her exam in March..any parents can advise, is SBA or Nafa, better?
& from certain post, some parents comment that in the past, Nafa doesn't send their students to RAD nor CSTD exam, but someone commentted that Nafa just started to send their students to RAD grade 1, grade 3 & grade 5 exam??
is this true? any parent can comment/verify?
sadly, SBA told me that CSTD is considered 1 level lower than RAD, so even if my girl passed her CSTD Primary exam, most likely, she has to 'downgrade' and join their Pre-Primary Year 2 class, but also depends on the assessment by the teachers at SBA
After hearing that, was quite upset, coz I feel that Attitude overall in terms of customer service, teachers etc is very good(compared to Ballet & Music company)..but does not seem to be very structured or focused, in terms of preparing their students for exams..
Feel bad that my girl seems to have wasted a lot of her time, coz I did not know where/how to find out more(i only get to know about this kiasu website last year), before deciding on a dance school..
Need more advice, esp on SBA or Nafa better? so that she does not waste more time..Nafa next intake is in July,
thus I hoping she can join SBA in April, aft March Exam, but currently weekend class all full, but she can't go weekday coz afternoon session..
Thanks in advance for all your advice!! Appreciate lots!! -
Perhaps can consider CC classes? If your dd does ballet for just recreational purposes, CC classes are just as good.

Hm..Cc near my place mostly weekday afternoon or evening class, which i can't send her coz of work in the past, & now she's in aftn session, totally impossible..if i not wrong, from the last time i checked, cc very seldom haf weekend class, even if have, will be more for beginners..
I would say, my girl seems quite serious in her ballet, coz she loves to perform & dance..even months after her Attitude concert(in Sept),she's still watching her performance on DVD & still remember all her dance steps..& also her 2 dance performances for her K2 graduation ceremony..& was eager to wear the costumes to perform for relatives during our christmas party:)
so I think I would want her to have proper training and develop her in this area
Hope I don't sound too kiasu
& of course, I am aware that interest may 'die' along the way la
Thanks for any advice! Cheers! -

If your Gal is Serious about Ballet, Better not send her to CC. Some CCs have very good dance schools and teachers. It depends on the CC you go to. SBA is good and gives the better girls an opportunity to perform with the SDT for some of their productions.

My girl attends class at a CC too and her teacher is good as well: strict but firm and the girls love her.

Hi, G Tan, may I know which teacher is your girl learning from, at Yew Tee Cc? & how long has your girl been learning from this teacher?
Thanks in advance!! -

Hi Funx3, ya, I would not say that all CC are not good, but depends quite a lot on luck? thus unless there are recommendations from parents for a certain teacher in certain cc, if not, don't think I wana try CC, coz I don't want my girl to waste even more time

coz no amount of $$ can buy back time lost!
& since she has intense interest in ballet, am hoping that she may be able to use Ballet for DSA, though I heard also quite tough
but have another problem..she just went through P1 health check-up in school,& got referred to Student Health Centre to further check on her eyes..sigh! her report done in school stated: right eye 6/18, left eye 6/12, think confirm need wear spectacles
think will affect her dance? no one dance ballet with spectacles right? & she's too young to wear contact lens!!
Or am I worrying too much? -

It's alright. Lots of girls who wear glasses just perform without their glasses during concerts or exams. Of course if she's very short-sighted she may prefer to wear contact lenses when she's older.
