Hi ryes,
Thanks for your reply.
Actually my girl have went for 3 lesson at the bishan cc moving arts.
But my girl refused to go, and I find the teacher there not very good in patience, maybe i’m wrong.
can you share more how you find the teacher there?, and should I gv them a try again? -
It is important to find a patient and strict ballet teacher as she will help the child to develop the right ballet technique. Look up on the PA website for ballet classes at the different community centres around your vicinity. It is not the brand name of the school that does miracles but the ballet teacher who can commit for long term and take the children under her wings throughout the grades.
Do not skip ballet grades as the children will miss out on developing the proper techniques and skills. Every level helps to build on the core and strength of the children’s ballet techniques and skills. If children are forced to skip grades, they would most probably not ready to take on the challenge both mentally and physically. Only at the discretion and experience of the ballet teachers, do they allow children to skip grades. Parents should not rush as the core foundation in ballet is very important. -
Hi
Maybe I PM u k -
I think other than teacher is strict, the teacher must have right chemistry with the child. If the child do not like this teacher, no matter how good or strict the child. Their enthusiastism will die off.

Hi,
For CSTD grade 3 to go to grade 4, must one pass an intermediate grade between grade 3 and 4?
DD currently just started on CSTD grade 3, but dance school wants her to do RAD instead but start from RAD grade 2. This will put her 1 year behind her peers. Anyone has good CSTD dance teacher to recommend? -

Hi,Hi, my dd is taking ballet Grade 2 and is eligible to take the grade 2 RAD exam. May I know basically is it a must or important to take the exam if we don't hv the intention for DSA.
I find my dd lack of confidence so thought of letting her take up this exam to boost her self confidence. She is quite reluctant worrying of forgetting the steps, etc. But without taking any exam, I wonder if its worth carrying on even though she will still move up the grade taking her usual lesson. Will there be any different if let's say she move up to Grade 5 but without any RAD cert for any grade.
Hope to find out more from any parents here, thks.
First thing you need to ask yourself and your daughter, does she enjoy ballet. That will answer your question whether to continue or not.
If she does enjoy ballet, then you need to think about if she in the right ballet path. Personally, I see there are 2 ballet paths, one focus on passing ballet exams, the other focus on performance. If your DD lacks confidence, then taking exam may not be a confidence booster but performing is. Maybe you should consider ballet schools that focus on performance rather than exams.

Whichever ballet grade exam yr girl want to take -
The ballet teacher will first need to assess her, whether she is ready to take that particular grade child / parent, is interested in.
After assessment, if ballet teacher feel that she is not ready, tr will recommend take another exam grade for her instead (may be lower)
Ballet rad exam takes place every year, in April.
Most ballet schools allow their students to train for exam, ie. go for extra coaching, at least 6 months before April. Ie. from November to April, there will be extra coaching, to prepare them for rad ballet exam held in April, each year. After exam end in April, then will be back to ballet practice, once a week. But 6 months from November - April, normally is held twice a week practice, the extra coaching is to prepare the girls for ballet exam, in April.
The youngest age to take ballet exam is \"pre-primary\" grade, ie. for kids aged 4 to 6 (n2 nursery to k2).
After \"pre-primary\" grade exam, is followed by \"primary\" grade, then followed by grade 1, grade 2, grade 3, etc, all the way to grade 8 rad exam.
Yes, go through \"primary\" grade first, before grade 1 can start.
During taking rad ballet exam, the examiner will observe & comment on your child's ballet movements. Eg :-
- whether child dance confidently or creatively,
- whether child demo proper co-ordination & control, in her ballet dance movement(s)
- Whether yr child has a sense of rhythm,
- whether her toe pointing dance step movements are accurate / good,
- whether she's doing correctly or not, etc.
all these comments will be recorded down, captured into the rad examination \"assessment report\".
Once child receive the ballet examination certificate, can start to file it up. In p6, will come in useful, if child want to use ballet, to dsa into one of your desired secondary school(s): example Scgs, etc
So don't worry whether yr child can take whatever grade exam, she keen in.
Let the ballet teacher assess her first, then feedback to parents.
Another thing is -
Some kids are very playful, inside the class.
Ie. they may not follow tr instructions, run around.
When tr look at the child, tr also look at the child's learning attitude.
If child is not serious (too playful), the ballet tr may not recommend child to take ballet exam. Because need to pay extra School fees to take ballet exam. So if child is playful, tr don't think is worth to spend / waste the extra 6 months coaching fees. If tr feel that child is not ready to take exam, ballet tr won't recommend. -

Hi, my dd2 took her primary RAD exams but wasn't recommended by her ballet teacher to take g1 and g2 exams. She carried on with her classes. This year, she was finally selected to do the g3 exam. So it is also possible to take higher grade exams even if one doesn't take the lower grades' exams. After assessment, if ballet teacher feel that she is not ready, tr will recommend take another exam grade for her instead (may be lower)
I understand from dd1 that there are classmates who doesn't take the exams even though recommended by the teacher. So I guess the choice belongs to the child and parent. -
I think since that she has continue with class without taking exam, she should have those fundamental step in G1 and G2. However, with the RAD change if their syllabus, it would be more tough as seem that there are more steps child need to know and able to do it. Ultimately, it will still depend parent and child to decide whether they want to take the exam or just enjoy the ballet class.
