Thank you Nicnac. I read some of the websites from different school, it states “older girls can wear tights” thus I’m questioning. I switched my girl from CSTD to RAD and was told that RAD do not wear ribbon shoes at grade 1. I think there’s alot of info I need to pick up.
Also, it seems like different school wear different colour leotard? The more I read, the more confuse I am. But I was told by the teacher that they need to wear sleeveless purple leotard and she will arrange for a purchase of exam attire when nearer to exam. -
Older girls as in grade 3 onwards… They wear tights. Yes, RAD does not wear the ribbon shoes at this stage. A little different from CSTD.
Hmm, regarding the change of leotards, they usually change nearer to the exam… I guess to save the parents some money. They need clean and new looking leotards for the exams, so they are req buy a new leotard. To make them buy another leotard ( color change) again right after the exams, I think parents will jump. Colourwise, I think the schools/teachers have the flexibility to decide… Cos I realized different schools do wear diff color eg some navy blue, some purple. -
I remember when I was in grade 2, I wore tights.
I just read the RAD exam specifications, and for grade 1-3, it says
'Option of short pink socks or pink nylon tights.'

Just to be sure, you can ask the teacher. Different studios have different policies. Due to the variation of uniform that RAD allows, teachers like to standardise the uniform. -
Don’t worry about it. The teacher will always tell you what you need and if you are buying new shoes, leotard etc. just check with her what they will use for the exam so that you buymit. Mya daughter’s class gradually transitioned over to the blue sleeveless Grade 1/2 leotard in the year leading up to the exam as they grew out of their old ones.

Thank you all. Now I have a bit of a clearer picture. I guess, I'll just wait till the teacher inform us to purchase the attire.
Besides, my girl kind of old for grade 1 exam. When she was at BB ballet, the school stopped the ballet course and so we move her to another Crestar where she continued. But then, this means she re-do the whole BB ballet course. So when she move up to Primary and Grade 1, she is already 1 yr later than the rest of the girls. She is suppose to do her CSTD grade 1 exam this Nov, but I move her to a CC doing RAD, so she can only do her grade 1 exam at 8yo if by birth date or 9yo by calendar year. Hence, another year later. Should I be concern? -
My daughter’s ballet school will allow girls to skip exams if they are able to show that they have covered the syllabus and the teacher is confident that they can cope with the level.

To meet the exam age requirement, they should be doing grade 1 april exam when they are in p2. Also, at lower grades, it is not neccessary to downgrade when switching frm cstd to rad… at least so far, non of us had to do that… unless of course if you make the switch in the middle of the year.

Hi nsm1 and nicnac, I don't think my girl can skip exam and go grade 2 as she has all the while been doing CSTD syllabus. It was quite lucky that when I call up the teacher, they just started their grade 1 class 2 weeks ago. So my girl only missed 2 lesson and the teacher found her able to follow the RAD syllabus to stay in grade 1. By right, she should be doing her grade 1 with CSTD at P2, this year. But because of the switch and RAD only do exam in Apr, she now got to go through the new RAD syllabus for next yr Apr.
I'm just thinking ahead that by P6, she'll only be in grade 4, when most of the girls will be in grade 5 or 6? If she has some talent in it and decides to go for DSA school, she'll probably has a lower chance compared to the rest? A bit too early to worry right? -
If you’re really concerned about her being behind her peers, you can ask the teacher if she could try grade 2 for a lesson and see if she can follow. I’m not familiar with CSTD syllabus, but I think lower levels should be learning almost the same things, except maybe they have different terms for the different moves. The big jump is from grade 2 to grade 3. I don’t think grade 1 to grade 2 has very very different things.
I started right from grade 2, without having done preprimary, primary or grade 1.
