:? If snails eat up leaves then why you leave tiny snails alone. Shouldn't we get rid of them once and for all?
Hmmmm... I dunno about you but I have 2 types. One type with round shells. One type with sharp. The sharp ones are very tiny and tend to eat the rotted material in the soil The type with round start off small and grow big. These are destructive. I get rid of those by throwing them into a bowl of vinegar. Then, I leave to rot for about 1 week and then throw back into the soil. -
Oh! wow ok now I get it. Whatever comes from the soil goes back to the soil.

Hi people, as expected my thyme is not doing well. It has these tiny insects running in and out of the soil. I believe these are harming my thyme. How do I get rid of it in a more “organic” way?

Hi all veterans,
I am starting my herb garden soon. How do I start?
Where do I go to buy the cheapest fertiliser?
Where can I go to buy the cheapest seeds.?
Asking for “cheapest” because I have to get all my neighbours to help to plant and grow these herbs and vegetables. -

Passion Fruit
The curry leave plant is the only one surviving from the original set of herbs that I started out with. I am the curry leave supplier for my mum, aunt, neighbours and colleagues. But of late, the curry leaves do not seem to be as fragrant. Wonder what happened.
After clearing the previous chilli and basil plants from my planter, I decided to throw some passion fruit seeds in there end of last year. Nothing sprouted for the longest time. In Mar/Apr just when the weather was starting to get less wet, I wanted to plant my chilli and basil in the planter only to find little sprouts in the soil. Realising that they are the sprouts from the passion fruit seeds that I threw in, I decided to leave them be and see how they fare. Passion fruit is a climbing plant so when little tendrils started to show, I cobbled together a trellis for the plant to climb. I think the trellis may be too small yet.
Planted some chilli padi in a separate planter and now they are starting to flower. These are from seeds of fresh chilli padi that we bought from the market. I made sure it was from a batch that is spicy enough. So if mama chilli was spicy, its off spring should be as well right? So far, I have been able to keep those pesky white flies at bay. :xedfingers: Cannot wait to get my hands on some home grown chillis.
Went out last weekend to get some basil as well. Thai and sweet basil. I hope they thrive. I miss having basil as and when I want them. I think basil is my favorite herb.
Aside from these, I have pandan (of course), lime, galangal (finding them harder and harder to dig out), lemon grass.
The kids, seeing me pottering around so much in the garden lately, wanted their own planters as well. And they insisted they want to grow something from its seed. I had a small planter lying around unused so, gave them that to start their project. They chose a pack of petunia seeds, followed the intructions and have been diligently keeping the soil moist. Been over a week and still nothing so they are getting a bit restless. Kids, -

for best flavour/smell, try to pick your herbs at night time during a waxing moon, for example the next full moon is on 31st August, harvest your herbs (preferably at night) between 26-30 August… also best to harvest barefooted (we are made of electrical signals) we need to be grounded before harvesting herbs so we dont damage them
it does not mean you cannot harvest at any other stage of the mean, its just that herbs are in the best horticultural stage during a waxing moon (all the flavour/scent/medicinal componets are concentrated on the leaves)… -

garlic spray.. buy organic garlic.. take about 8 cloves into a pint of water.. blend on high until you get a smooth/clear consistency.. put in a sprayer... spray the leaves and roots..
you can also plant wormwood, fennel or neem around the perimeter of your thyme (to protect it)... -
Chenonceau:
pound egg shells then put on the ground where your plants are planted or dig a 1 inch deep small trench around the plants.. cover with plastic.. then add salt..and vinegar (if you are that generous and you want to increase the likelihood that the snails will be trapped and hopefully die)...peapot:

Funz:
