Wow, hate nan hua alot hor, my friend in dunman comfirm suffer. Some teachers. For example, the Maths and Science ones. Chinese teacher also not bad.
History, English teachers suck. They never returned my worksheet which I handed in in 2008 until now!! Grr, I think she ate them. Just a tip: don't go NH, the teachers there are atrocious. History teachers also don't teach us, just give us model essays to memorise even though History is supposed to be subjective. -

Agree with Krazy .... for some HODs, this is one of the basis for ranking of teachers in the dept.daisyt
we need to mark every script. haha.. actually it depends on the sch and how the middle management wants to. cuz my hod, principal will check every file and book.
and everyone needs to hand in. even if not every book or file is scrutinized, even if picked randomly, teachers do get into trouble if the work is not done properly. so we chase students for all their work. for students who are in the top classes and are self motivated, the work will come in but for the tail end classes, lots of chasing and scolding. it can get so tiring cuz its not just books and files. we also have to collect forms and what not.
Also, we had a quota of assignments to give to the pupils. These, we definitely had to return, get them to do corrections and re-mark again. Imagine, I am speaking from the perspective of a Lit/EL teacher who, at one point of time, had 2 Sec 4 EL classes, 2 Sec 4 Lit classes, 3 Sec 3 Lit classes and 3 Sec 2 Lit classes :!:
Ermmmm, as for chasing. I don't do that, never had the time. I negotiate a deal with them -

An ex-teacher here.... totally understand what you are saying. Parents outside the education arena need to understand what teachers are going thru' Many still think that the teaching system has unevolved over the last 20 years. The solution to this is the same when you try to divide a number by zero in your calculator. Now we know why are there advertisements on the TV that ends with \"Thank you, Mrs Wee....\" hee hee....hey
i am a secondary sch teacher. and yes i mark. although i take forever to mark.
reason being:
1) i teach 3 EL classes of 40 kids each on top of other LIT classes. many of these kids esp the normal academic ones do not write well. and marking 40 scripts is like writing 40 essays of my own or else, the kids will not know how to do corrections.
2) daily classes can end as late as 3pm and there after, there are CCAs and a normal day can finish at 6pm. If there are no CCAs, there are meetings and tutorials and what nots. I leave the school at 6pm, but still no time to do marking because my time in the afternoons are taken up by other more urgent matters like meetings and tutorials, or attending courses.
Still I need to mark. So I sleep lesser, steal time away from my daughter, or hide somewhere to mark. nowadays, i try to mark while i wait for my girl to finish her enrichment classes. not many scripts can be done at one time, at most 6 / 7 in that one hour time frame.
so .. the marked scripts will come in. -
Sec Math Teacher here.
I wish I don’t have to mark HW siah.
I’m marking all the time. I’ll bring work out when I go for dinner, family gathering, doc’s appointments, etc. whenever I’m waiting, I’ll be marking.
I don’t mark most of my 1NT’s homework though cos mostly very straight forward, no need working kinda questions.
I will go thru’ the difficult questions in class and the students exchange their books to mark for each other (think they do that in primary school too). other easy questions, random students will be picked to come up to the board and present their answers. I’ll mark then the kids mark their friends’ books.
What I do have to mark for them is their weekly test paper. Yes, they have a test EVERY week. will give me feedback on their performance and quite enough marking for me liao. -

You have to do.I'm currently in sec 1.
At first my form teacher marks my homework. But then my homework increase . Thus teacher dont mark alot now.
Every month the school gives us a worksheet. I'm still stressing whether to do or not do as teacher have not go through last month's worksheet...
discuss with your friends if u meet with any problem.
If ya friends also can't do, raise the problem in class or find your teacher after lesson time to clarify.
You should be responsible for your own learning. -
Kudos to all teachers :celebrate: ! With the weekly test on top of daily homework, u really need more than 24 hrs per day !! That's why some single teachers can't find time to socialise and others get \"burnt out\". It's really stressful as nowadays the students are difficult to manage too.

Speaking with experience as an EL tr, marking essays is a never ending job. Sometimes exercises are self-marked or peer-marked (Peer marking is also a very helpful learning process for students). Other times, teacher focus-marks (targets at particular group of errors only) or marks for assessment. But ALL class work or home work WILL be taught, explained and gone through with students.
Exceptional cases are near exam period when I want students to practice writing or compre papers. Then I’ll issue the answer scripts for students to self check. Students will approach me if they need to clarify things. If not it’ll take a very long time to return all the marked scripts. And from what I see, many students are not concerned about the mistakes they make or making sure they don’t make the same mistakes. They just want to know how many marks they get, and then chuck the papers aside. -

Fully agree! :celebrate:[/quote]Fully agree too. Many a times, when students face problems, they do not voice them...how would the teacher know?? I'm sure all teachers will ask, \"are there any questions?\" And any responsible teacher will try his/ her best to clarify doubts/ questions for any student who approaches him/ her.
