My girl is in P2 and she has benefitted from this Stella program. She enjoys the creative English lessons in class and loves reading. Instead of the usual textbook style of learning grammar, the teachers will create spellng list, close passages, Q&A and grammar lessons from the different books used. My girl enjoys reading these big books and I tried to search for the books in many local bookstores, libraries and internet and only manage to get a few of them from an online bookstore.

I got some of these books through an online contact as I could not find them at bookstores. If u keen, u can enquire at [email protected].

Not all the titles are available and some of them written by the same author, Joy Cowley may not be used by MOE but my daughter enjoyed reading as well. The books are priced ard $12 each. Hope info useful 😎

Different schools choose different books/series for their STELLAR program.

For some schools, the books they choose are easily available online from UK bookstores. For others, they are using the standard set published by local companies.

The focus should not be trying to obtain copies of the books but knowing the general topic of the book.

For example, my P2 students from Mee Toh will photocopy their worksheets for me. Based on their worksheets, I know that the topic is on sports. I will give them articles on sports and teach them the relevant terminology for different sports.

Usually, the school will issue out a letter stating the overall content for the whole year’s STELLAR program. If it’s not given to you in the beginning of the year, call up the teacher to request for it. I know Mee Toh gave it out during the first week of school and my students gave me a copy. It’s clearly stated which grammar rules will be completed within that year.

Schools are allowed to tailor their own programs slightly, so you need to check with your child’s school.

Another approach I take with students from schools that do not provide this information: I teach them everything from scratch, regardless of the school’s progress. This method takes a slightly longer time to see academic results but it’s a good foundation building for long term.

how to prepare the child if the sch is using stellar approach?

my girl’s sch used to assess based on daily work, which is terok cos the child is usu unprepared for classwk, unless for exams.

is there any way we can get hold of some stellar materials to revise at home or learn in advance?

I’ve seen popular bookstore selling the set of the smaller sized version of the big books used in schools for stellar.

that series sold in popular is not the same as what the sch used.

the publisher not allowed to sell to the public.

The Stellar books used in the school are to be kept in school…from what I heard, the books cannot be brought out of the classroom.

Just bought daughter’s P1 books today from school…other than the compulsory Stellar writing 1, there is an optional English grammar textbook, which I bough and plan to use it to teach her as well as son’s old English textbooks.

                        Was reading through the thread…

So, this Stellar program is basically - read a storybook - look at keywords - learn sentence structure - and then piece together a compo/ paragragh with those key words???

Hmm… sounds similar to the R&W program at Julia Grabriel. I wonder if my boy’s school is totally on Stellar - sounds like it though - but i guess i will only know when he actually start school next year.
