Lego Mindstorm NXT 2.0 Feedback needed

my son is in P4 this year. Am worndering if getting him the Lego Mindstorm will improve his reasoning and analytical skills.
Parents who have bought the Lego Mindstorm, what are the benefits do you see in getting this set ? It’s about $450, not a cheap toy. If there are no benefits, I’ll rather spend the money on enrichment classes to improve his academic grades.
I’ve a programing and Electronics engineering background, and I’ve experience with servo motors and sensors in my work, so coaching my son on this isn’t a problem, and I know that left on his own, he wouldn’t get far. The issue is what are the benefits that he gets out of this?
My son is into Rollerblading, Piano. So there are other things to keep him occupied when he’s not studying. -

Ack, I thought it's just for (more serious) fun for kids who have the inclination? DS is eyeing it and dropping not so subtle hints, but I doubt it will make him more organised in his thoughts. If it will I will definitely run out and buy it asap though. :lol:my son is in P4 this year. Am wondering if getting him the Lego Mindstorm will improve his reasoning and analytical skills.

But given the price-tage, it's not something that I will buy if the child is not interested.
