In-law problems?

SAHM Chew:
How old r your kids? I was lucky cos MIL came over when kids already ~7yo. And I told the kids truthfully why I do not want them to eat certain food, so sometimes they will ask me for permission or ask MIL when the food was bought. At least your kids know n do not accept the food. My kids, not matter how i instructed them not to accept the food, they never follow, n since i am staying with in laws, they always gives the food to the kids secretly.
If kids r young, a lot harder. Like during the china milk scare (that time, I was still working & kids taken care by MIL). Despite repeated warnings, MIL still buy & even take from others who din want their sweets to give my kids. My kids happily ate & told me. I really fumed & got DH into the pic - in front of her, we threw all the china-manufactured sweets (with milk content) in her house. We told her - from then we'll see one throw one. If she does not want to waste $, stop. She got the picture. -

Why don't you get your in-laws some Tupperware or food savers and demo to them to store leftovers in these boxes and put them in fridge? Old people are sometimes like kids, they get the point when given proper demo on how you want things done. Also try abstaining from cooking or buying more food than you can consume, then no worries over eating food that is contaminated due to improper storage.
My mil has tons of tupperware, but she is not using. Not that she do not know, but rather, is her habit. She had been buying food at 12pm for the past 20 -30 yrs n had kept them in this way on the dinning table, eating them at night for dinner. My hb n sil also eat the same food, so they think i am crazy, to get so upset abt food that is kept for more than 4 hrs at room temperature. But the issues are, i have food posioning fm eating the food.
Strangely enough, my mil like to buy more than what she can consume, then kept in fridge one day later, n throw them out after mths n mths in fridge.now, i swear never to eat the food that she bought -
My kids are 9,6,4. The 9 n 4 yrs old are still accepting food as they do not know how to say no. Despite me telling them not to eat in front of mil, n i told mil not to give them food that are kept for so long... She still don get my msg  i explain to the kids before, but they will still forget... I think the kids need to experience the food poisoning before they know...

If her kids grew up eating the food and are fine, that’s bcos they are used to it…besides, it’s a known fact that food not consumed have to be kept in the fridge. The prob is not that fridge is full…but due to her laziness to heat up. What’s the point of having nice containers? Hubby told me she washed all the styrofoam boxes after eating economy rice…if she doesn’t get food poisoning, nothing can get into her head.

no point changing in laws… they are already old and nothing u do will change their minds… i would rather try to change dh’s mindset… it would be easier…
my mil knows i wun eat if i caught her leaving food on the table without covering them… she used to cook more during lunch and leave the food on the table all the way till dinner…
because of that, i always take a snack or eat with colleague before going back… this will ensure i wun hv to depend on the food "quality" that is made for the dinner… -

DH kept quiet
Sometimes it's not just leaving food outside for soooo long, it's the same food eaten over days!!
MIL do not wash their butter knife (for butter, jam, mayonaise etc). They would use and place it back into fridge on top of the magarine tub repeated.
Raw food can be placed next to it uncovered..... Tried telling her to change that bad habit, no use. So I wash it everytime before using and instructed maid to wash before using it for my kids. When MIL came to stay with us, she insisted on her way. I refused to bulge....open fridge see it there, I took it out. She would put back, I will take out....then she can't find in fridge, put back again.... After a while, she gave up

every mother, be it even us, have their own way of doing... not to say whose ways are better, but nothing happens to ur dc doesnt mean nothing will happen to dgc (dear grand child)...
the h1n1 few yrs back, was ridiculous... i moved out of the hse to a vacant hse offered by a kind friend to get away from my in laws... my sil got h1n1 first... much as i told mil that they got to stay away from her and blah blah blah.. they blame me instead for discrimination... i got so angry after 2 days and move out.. later fil got h1n1, and then another sil... and finally mil also got... good la... whole family go have fun with birds... -
Yeah…agree most elderly people do not pay attention to food hygiene be it preparation or storage. My in-laws eat straight from the serving dishes and soup bowl. They do not use serving spoons. I always cringe when I see everyone’s spoons dunking into the big soup bowl. Eeeek! Sometimes, I bochap and scoop small bowls of soup for ourselves and my kids. Can’t have my kids eating everyone’s saliva!!!
Once I caught my MIL loosening up the pot of rice with her chopsticks that she was using halfway through her meal at the table. FAINT!!! -

u will be disgusted to know that the whole family doesnt wash cups... my fil will take a cup and pour water to drink, after which he will leave the cup next to the jug of water... next my sil goes to kitchen and conveniently take the same cup and pour water and drink, leaving the same cup next to water jug.. the cycle goes on and on until my ds1 is awake, my mil will use that same cup, pour water and bring it to him... wah biang... :stupid: :stupid:
