Exactly!The only way to kill this pattern (tuitioning) is to DO NOT follow the herd. Let your child learns at his or her own pace. But do it at own risk. Because others still will follow herd.

Basically, it's 'teachers coach, parents teach'. Son comes back with math hw everyday and I see hubby going through the sums with him.Actually, to teach such mental SKILLS. Small group coaching is essential.
That is what is happening now when parents coach kids after school or engage tutors to do so. School does the lecture. Parents and tutors do the skills practice after school. If that is so, they should shorten school hours so we have more time for practice.
Hours spent in school are long, but not much constructive work is done. No proper teaching of compo and science, why do kids need to attend school? -

Mine only did 4. Worse, the compo comes back without marks for English... And without comments for Chinese. He doesn't know what he did wrong or can improve. -
Hi parents,
The compo class I signed my son for should have 1 lesson of brain- storming, and actual writing on the next. Sure hope he will learn how to write interesting compos with more catchy phrases. Iβve given up in this area.
His teacher always tell class to have plot, but never go into details how to draw up one. Isnβt there a lesson dedicated to write compo? -

I provide CL tuition and compo writing class to my son bcos I can't handle these areas. The rest, hubby and I coach ourselves to best ability. Son doesn't get fantastic results, but to provide him with more tuition doesn't make sense and will only make him get sick of school/studies.
