. Just last Friday, hubby attended a P1 Math workshop to learn how to teach Math.
If I have to coach my kids in their studies until they have finished P6, there is NO chance of getting ่ไบบ็ดๅ็ (Alzheimer's disease) in the meantime.
I always tell my son we are learning something new everyday...and that applies to me too, so don't complain.
All the best to your ds on this coming SA1 for maths and put more effort on Section B and Section C (advise to be daily) as these two area require more detail working once you don't see much problem in Section A (MCQ).

Iโm generally quite relaxed about my boyโs schooling, but this thread is getting me mildly anxious! He is in P1 now, no tuition. I donโt even teach him much at home, as we spend most of the time practising piano or playing with his brothers. I suppose P1 is still the honeymoon period.
BUT, next year, weโll all be packing off overseas for a year - heโll miss part of P2 and P3. I will be homeschooling him the syllabus, but is it enough to teach from the textbook? -

I'm following Brenda's advice...print out Section A Maths to get son to practice on accuracy first, closer to exam will time him on speed and accuracy. Really hope :celebrate: he will pass Maths this time.
Section A and B are the safety base to secure the marks of 36 to 40.
As for Section C, you can also break the question into 8, 6, 4 (5 marks) and move on so as to have sufficient time before SA1.

I suggest you buy the top school exam papers, and get your kid to do those for diagnostic. From there, you highlight topics that pose problem. List the topics out and then look for resources to teach those topic by topic. We used the internet quite a bit in P3 and P4... and of course, we did drills for multiplication and mental addition and subtraction. Good to get a good foundation there first.... build speed and accuracy at lower primary for the mechanics of Math. Then later, when you come to P5, can pick up faster and easier the complex skills.
If your kid can master P1, dun hesitate to push ahead. I learnt my hard lesson this year. Pre-teaching is necessary if you dun want a demoralized little boy who cries into his pillow.
The textbook is useless... but if you want, you can look at the contents page for topics list. However, your guide to curriculum should be the top school exam papers. I use them to diagnose, to practise and to test. If you get soft copies, you can print the same paper twice and redo. -

Ammiel Wan's books are good. You can find Visible Thinking in Popular... as well as Challenging Problems Made Easy... but both are for Upper Primary, I think.
For P3 and P4, I passed my son Step-by-Step by Simon Eio for basics. No need to explain. He read, understand and do, step-by-step. He marks and randomly, I mark some. I did quite little. If he still doesn't get it, he googles. Mostly, he is quite independent. I only look and say \"Hmmm... good.\" For in-depth training, I use Top School Exams. Every week do one. Got problem, ask Daddy.
I bought very few assessment books. I'm allergic to spending money.
Just Step-by-Step for basics and Top School Exams. Right now, we will complete Onsponge, then we will start on Challenging Problems Made Easy. Both by Ammiel Wan. Meanwhile, we maintain the discipline of doing 1 piece of top school exams each week. My boy will mark himself and tell me the score. Randomly, I pick and mark. Got problem, ask Daddy to help solve and explain.
