as usual, the vision is good, but the implementation sucks.

MOE policy makers comes up with the high level strategy direction and leaves the implementation details to the schools.
If a high level strategy is not followed by a well thought out implementation plan that is closely monitored, it is as good as no strategy.

MOE policy makers are not educators...how could they possibly have a good vision and strategy...basically the kids are all guinea pigs. For one thing, the EDUCATION minister needs to be changed bcos he is not suitable.
This idiotic slogan is the cause of brain drain...well-heel parents will want to send their kids overseas for a more all-rounded education. My son is in P5, and daughter in P1...she is taught heuristics now and models  Not only that, she is also taught connectors like Synthesis.

:!: Janet, heuristics and models; connectors like Synthesis - in P1? Only heard of models in P2 and my dear DD1 now in P3 - I have seen her teachers using the term Synthesis! πŸ˜‰

              Hi Janet,

I think it's depends on the school. some schools wanted to show other schools that they are very high standard, or they are providing high quality education. As aresult their school will become branded school. we parents are also attracted to those branded schools and end up doing pv, changing locations etc. etc.

I don think all the schools are teaching models in P1. because my dd was introduced models in p2 term 1. children need some maturity to understand the logical thinking. poor thing your dd. but luckey you are her mummy. :salute:

Janet, this slogan only makes the process more painful for everyone but ultimately the change in the syllabus to increase the difficulty of each levels is already cast in stone. In fact, it seems to be getting tougher with the years as they think kids are getting more exposed in the later generation. So the change of the syllabus is not controlled by the slogan but this slogan gives the educators some leeway of skirting around the paradigm shift that they are caught in it themselves. My friend who has a kid in the secondary school and one in primary now feels that the syllabus is indeed getting tougher. She compares her elder's syllabus to her younger syllabus, it HAS increased in difficulty for the same level. In fact another friend with different level kids also said so...
My Boy who is in O-level last year commented why they R doing sec level Sc in P5 last year ....
So U R Right, definitely Syllabus is Getting MORE Challenging Now .... πŸ˜› πŸ˜›

I had posted a Q in the PSLE Science Thread. It is from Q25 from CHS SA1 P6 2010.
                    http://www.orlesson.org/orp/10Sc/2010-P6-Sc-SA1-CHS.pdf

To be able to solve this Q it is necessary to know that
mass x distance = amt of gravatational potential energy

But is this bit of info taught in P6? Can some P6 parent confirm this?

Similarly that KE is proportional to Mass and velocity.

Well its is good to know the formula if the child s capable of handling it. It really helps when understanding more complex questions

Guess this is a \"Sieve-the-Genius-from-the-Mundane\" Kind of Q so that Not So Many Kids can score Full Marks, or A* in the Exam?
