Oh my...their cakes certainly look very pretty! There is another one selling, Japanese cake shop
http://cakeglace.com/
This cake shop was recommended by a friend, who loves the cakes from this shop very much.
I've seen them featured on channel 8 once, last year I think.
I've only tried the pies from them. It's hard to get the cakes there, selling very fast.
But alas....Tanjong Pagar is kinda out of the way....

oh .....u get me anxious and curious to try out these ring cakes ......
Yeah...after Fit-flops, this is the next shop I'm getting commission from! -
When I 1st saw this I thought it looked like our cake lapis. Tried it when I was in Japan, they have so many different flavours, but found it ok only. I guess I am not so much a cake person or maybe the one from this bakery is really much nicer.

The Baumkuchen at Toa Payoh is different from the one at Takaโฆ Personally (and many of my friends agree too), the one at Toa Payoh is much drier (comparing like to like). The saving grace comes from the icing that provides a bit more moisture. There is of course a price difference too. Even compared to the "not so fresh" vacuum packed ones from Jap (available at places like Meidiya or Isetan), the Toa Payoh version is still on the dry side.
Glaceโs baumkuchen is very much like the one in Taka but still, not as moist
Try the one at Taka first, thatโs the closest to the real thing, or should I say, that IS the real thing. -

That's what I thought too...kueh lapis made into a doughnut!
Maybe you can give Juchheim's a try when you come across it? It's been around since 1909, so they must be doing something right.

Thanks for the review, will lower my expectation when trying the one at TP.
