Effectiveness of Small Group Tuition

can i know who is the service provider for the CW to CC? there is nothing on CW for the activities in CC near my place. there is one tuition centre providing CW, but we went for their holiday programme in P1 and were not impressed. At that time, the teachers of that centre were not friendly, students were only given topics to write in class and marked, no writing techniques taught, and my son was scolded (\"why you have so many questions?\" said the teacher  ) for asking questions in class.jedamum:
I am expecting his performance to drop from a a high Band 1 (for the past 2 yrs) to a border-line Band 2 and Band 1 because of new composition component he has this year.
If your ds is relatively okay wth paper 2, just need to brush up compo, you might want to consider nearby CC or RC? At least location is more convenient.
I just started my p3 girl on creative writing at nearby CC. Attended 3 lessons, need to monitor progress the next few months -

Oh, I didn't take note who's the provider. There are a number creative writing classes organised by nearby CCs and RCs. So I picked the one with most suitable class timing. If my dd complains no good then I will switch
You're in bukit batok? Might want to expand your search to neighbouring town CCs? if your nearest CC doesn't have suitable class.
My nearest CC does not have a class either. I have to expand to other centers within 15 minutes drive so that I've more choices in terms of timing. I prefer weekdays but somehow most writing classes are on weekends. -

Sleepy,
Thanks. Will look around.
VisualTextEducation,
Read somewhere that your Free June Tuition is for Secondary school only, no?
Your centre in Bishan, no?
Thanks anyway. :celebrate: -
Hi jedamum,
We do have a volunteer teacher doing at the primary school level. I am not sure whether he has maxed out his list. But i am sure I can compromise on one slot if you are interested. Hahahaha… My list is only available for secondary school students though. His name is Eugene. My name is Peter btw. Nopez… My centre is not located in Bishan. I am currently located in 10 Winstedt Road. But I am moving to City Square Mall by July. Come by?
It will be held in Upper East Coast Road btw. The place is sponsored by my ex-tuition teacher… hahaha, he is retiring soon… I hope to take over his legacy… -
Hi Jedamum,
Just an update,
I have come to know about an ex teacher from The learning lab at Novena who teaches composition skills as you mentioned. She is no longer at learning lab anymore but I heard her students’ parents try all means and ways to track her down. And when they finally do, they kinda swoon down to her private tuition. LOL. If you are interested, you can speak to her. PM me yah. I dunno whether can put hp no. here or not. Later my post kena deleted again. =(
Cheers! -
She is only teaching English at the primary school level. Only English. LOL. I recommend her because she designs her own curriculum and knows very very well what she is teaching and where she is going with the student. Hahaha, sorry I dunno where she is teaching, but I know she just set up her tuition centre early this year providing only english… hahaha… so if you are only interested in English ok la… if you want her number, pm me lo…

thanks for the note to look at the programmes offered by community centres. my ds1 started his first lesson today. we signed up (and paid in full, no prorated) despite that the course had started a month ago because we don't want to wait for the next term in July. while ds1 was attending lesson, i found out that Proteach in that neighbourhood offers creative writing too! the weekend timing is better than the current cc weekdays slot. fees aside, the current class size at that proteach branch is 4 while the cc is 14. proteach is p3 while cc is combine p2 and p3. asked my ds1 want to change anot and he said no!!!!!! because he found out that 2 of his classmates are attending the cc creative writing too! one of which scored the highest in SA1 english, so he concluded that this must be a good programme. I was like :slapshead: . and of course also because he scored full marks for today's spelling (i didn't know they have spelling) even though it was his first lesson. the teacher praised that his 1st piece of work is good and kept it while she returned the compos to the rest of the class. my ds1 compo is that good meh? having coach him for SA1 compo, I think cc standard is not high (or is my expectations too high? :scratchhead: ). have looked through the compo pictures that they will be doing for next few lessons and found that the picture compo are not those 'common' type. good and bad. good is that it trains my ds1 to write uncommon stuff and also he needs to analyse the picture carefully to ensure that what he intepreted is not far off from the picture. since june holidays coming up, maybe will try proteach for 1-2 months to compare.
off topic liao.... -

Pulled my dd out after 1 month, the teacher do not want to feedback my question at all...told me joined in between and assured can catch up..in d end, after 5 lessons will have a test to cover the previous 10 lessons..how to cope !!!sleepy:
