          Dear Mamachen,

yes, generally Asian children can start to inline-skate successfully at about 4 years old. This also depends on how physically active the child is. If a child is already cycling (doesn’t matter 2, 3 or 4 wheels) and swimming, the child is more likely to have developed thigh muscles and is more likely to be successful at picking up the sport.

The youngest Asian child we know have learnt to skate successfully is 2.5 years. On the other hand, we also have 7-year olds who are struggling to learn because they are not physically active.

So the short answer is, your child can start at about 4 to 5. The more physically active the child already is, the higher the chance of successfully mastering the sport as a lifelong skill at this age.

Skating is useful for improving motor skills of developing children, especially in the area of fore-aft balance, lateral motion and hand-leg coordination.

Skateline has a pro-shop and lesson venue at Pasir Ris Sports and Recreation centre (120 Pasir Ris Central) and conducts lessons every weekend in a sheltered area there. You are welcome to call us at 65830098 for more details.

I hope this is useful for you.

            Hi Skateline,

I’ve actually left my particulars of my child to be matched up for group lesson half a year ago. So far, I didn’t hear any replies. Is it that if I can’t form my own group, I won’t be able to join any group lessons?

            Thanks

              Hi Edmund

              Tks for the info!

Perhaps let my younger boy get his swimming for another 6months and see how things goes. As for my older boy, I have left my particulars for matching. So far only got a call from sunny, but later no news if I can get a class formed as I only have 2 (including myself)…

Hope to hear back from him again as I really hope to get the lesson started soon!!
              Cheers!!

My kids learned from http://www.doorstepskating.com/slots.php. The coach teaches at your doorstep.

I am not related to to the coach. My kids learn from him last year. I feel he is quite good.

                        Hi

I am looking for a coach to teach my 3 kids to learn to blade from first week of April (Sunday, 5pm).

                        Can anyone recommend?

                        Thanks!
