Is 15 years old too young to send overseas for studies?

Lovejoypeace,
Thanks for sharing your journey with us. It is definitely a route that many of us may consider for our children if they do not fit into the Singapore education system. It is inspiring to read that the child can have other options but it is definitely a big sacrifice for the family. It must be very hard for you but the positive definitely outweights the cons for your daughter’s future.

Thanks for sharing so much. You are amazing. It must have been such a difficult decision to move in Australia with 5 kids.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on “sexual” education. You are defintely a very modern mother and I hope I could be as open as you so that my kids are comfortable to talk to me about any issues!

Thanks for sharing so much. This is really an interesting topic and as most of you say, the decision lies with the maturity of the kid and also…the readiness of the parents to let go! -

So sad that these kinds of school programmes are only available overseas and in \"ang moh\" countries. I think my no.3 would flourish in such kinds of environment, except he also enjoys the very chinese subjects and challenge of chinese music. China would probably be worse than SG. Even Taiwan. HAHA.
Can literally see my daughter \"blossoming\"!
She now enjoys her classes and take delight in her homework. She was given opportunity to take up a leadership outdoor course where she get to learn sailing, abseiling, tramping, bush walking and rock climbing. I can see she cannot wait! -

hi lovejoypeace,Glad to hear that. Please let me know if you need any information etc. I will be happy to assist.
Just got some glowing reports from the teachers there. I have not heard such comments when she was here in Singapore. Hopefully she will continue her love for studying and the momentum will stays. :imcool:
could I take up your offer and trouble you to pm me the estimated cost of education + living for your kid? I think if I take this path, I will move with her.
thanks -
Hi lovejoypeace,
Glad that I see you post. Does your daughter settles fast in the new environment? Is she an outgoing type and make friends easily? How much must I set aside, I want my dd to do the same, but there is alway worries and more worries… -
She is the shy sensitive type so I am quite surprised that she settles down very fast. I guess alot has to do with the homestay parents, the teachers and the fact they get a buddy to accompany her throughout the first few weeks that helped make the transistion so much better. When I was there with her, I can sense the warmth of the teachers when they speak to her and this attitude is not just to her as an international student but to the rest of the student population as well.
I paid a total of $27,000 for her school +homestay fees. If you calculate it based on a monthly figure, it is around $2300 a month. -

I am really surprised it is similar to putting your kid at an international school here. I think the fee is closest to Australian International School. I was considering UWC but it is a bit too costly and waiting list is long. Some of her classmates have been waiting for years. She is the shy sensitive type so I am quite surprised that she settles down very fast. If I pay similar fees here, I might as well go overseas with all the better facilities and environment.
My DD is also a shy sensitive type. So I glad to hear your DD is doing well. -
I did consider putting her in the international schools here as I will have her close to me but after checking with the international schools, I realised they do not take in normal academic kids. So no choice but to look overseas.

Thank you for your valuable info. A total of S$27,000 per year including food, I think it is not too bad for an average household income. It should be 6 years high school followed by 3 to 4 years university??? (of course the school fee will also be increased with level).
Please keep us update with your dd progress. It is very wonderful and heart warming to hear children doing well… My belief is everybody can do well, it is just that are they given the chances and time. -

Agree. My DD is already paying just under $20K in an international pre school here.Thank you for your valuable info. Do keep us posted on your dd progress. Although my DS is p4, I have received remarks from two of his tutor that my DS will be better off if he is in international school as he is creative and drilling kills his interest to study.
